The PR counterattack that Oliver had orchestrated, using the narrative she had drafted, was still dominating the charts. It was strange—Oliver hadn't paid for massive bot promotion, yet the story was stubbornly clinging to the top of the trending list.
The articles painted Jamie in an absolutely horrific light, yet he didn't seem to care at all.
Was his billion-dollar corporate PR team asleep at the wheel?
Whatever. If he wanted to let his reputation tank, that was his problem. Let the world think he was a scumbag.
Suzie was still muttering curses under her breath when a nurse knocked and walked in with a bright smile.
"Time for your IV, Ms. Sterling."
Suzie nodded and leaned back against the pillows.
As the nurse prepped the IV line, she glanced around the empty room. "Where's your husband? Someone needs to keep an eye on your drip, you know."
Suzie offered an awkward smile. She opened her mouth to say, *"He's not my husband,"* but the nurse beat her to it.
"He is so incredibly sweet. During morning rounds, he was..."
Suzie winced.
So this was one of the nurses who had caught them cuddling this morning.
How was she supposed to explain that? If she said they weren't married, the fact that they were sharing a hospital bed made her look even worse.
While Suzie sat there in mortified silence, the nurse happily kept gossiping.
"I honestly can't believe a gorgeous billionaire is your husband! That whole trending scandal... people were saying the woman at his party was that plastic surgery disaster, Suzanne Baird? But looking at you, it was obviously you! We all pulled up the photos. That before-and-after picture of Suzanne at the Chaim Cosmetic Clinic doesn't hold a candle to the woman at the gala. It had to be you! You should sue them. It's so sick that someone would completely reconstruct their face just to look like you. What a cheap knockoff..."
The young nurse chattered at a mile a minute, making Suzie's head spin.
She had considered trying to set the record straight, but realizing the nurse was just an incurable gossip, Suzie gave up. She just smiled and stayed quiet.
