The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 489

"Right away, Mr. Baylor," Aaron replied. But then his tone grew urgent. "Sir, there's another issue. Mr. Richard Baylor's meditation retreat in the mountains is almost over. The monks are strict about no phones, but the second he gets out, he's going to check the news. What happens when he sees the trending articles about you and Ms. Sterling from the past few days?"

Jamie's grandfather had insisted on going to the mountains for a vacation a while back. Jamie had arranged for him to join an exclusive meditation retreat. Fortunately, the head monk was a traditionalist who strictly forbade all electronic devices. Jamie had only sent two staff members to ensure his grandfather's daily needs were met.

But the second his grandfather returned to civilization and saw Suzie's face splashed across the internet, all hell would break loose.

If the old man stormed down from the mountain and went looking for Suzie, it would completely derail Jamie's plans. Things would get incredibly complicated.

Just as Aaron was stressing over the inevitable disaster, Jamie spoke.

"Find a way to convince him to stay on the mountain a little longer."

Aaron paused. "...Understood. Should I go ahead and order breakfast for you and Ms. Sterling?"

"No need. I'm picking it up myself. Keep me updated."

...

By the time Jamie returned with the food, Suzie had finished washing up and was sitting on the edge of the bed, scrolling through her phone.

When he walked in, she didn't mince words. "You said you video-called the kids yesterday. Whose phone did you use? And how did you pull that off?"

Jamie calmly set the food down on the table. "That's a secret between me and them. We pinky-promised. I can't say."

Suzie rolled her eyes. Trying to communicate with this man had become utterly exhausting.

She grabbed a pastry and bit into it aggressively, chewing as if she were biting Jamie's head off. She made a mental note to sit those three little traitors down for a serious talk the second she got home.

As she ate, Jamie pulled up a chair and joined her. Suzie shot him a dirty look and turned her back, eating facing the wall.

A few minutes later, she snapped in annoyance, "Could you not slurp your soup?"
