Once Jamie was transferred to a private VIP suite and comfortably settled, the nurses hurried out.
Aaron hadn't followed them inside immediately. Only after the medical staff cleared out did he step into the room, his tone gentle. "Ms. Sterling, I've already called Mia. Once the guests have cleared out, she's going to bring your bag over. She also mentioned that the staff is heading back to the studio after lunch, so you don't need to worry about things on that end."
Suzie gave a hollow, emotionless nod.
Aaron continued, "Mr. Baylor pushed all his morning meetings to attend your grand opening, and now with this accident, I really need to get back to the office to handle the fallout. Can I leave him in your care for now?"
Suzie hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded. She was the one who had put him in this hospital bed; the least she could do was stay until he woke up and she knew for a fact he was okay.
After Aaron left, a heavy silence fell over the room.
Suzie leaned over the edge of the bed, staring at Jamie's face for a long time. She even lightly pinched his cheek, but he didn't so much as flinch.
Nervously, she sat back in the chair beside the bed. A few minutes later, unable to sit still, she stood up and began pacing the room.
She paced back and forth for what felt like an eternity. Suddenly remembering something, she hurried back to the bedside. Reaching out, she pressed her fingers against his wrist, trying to check his pulse.
But the moment her fingertips met his skin, she felt his fingers twitch.
"You... you're awake?"
Her voice shook as she quickly looked up at his face. His eyelashes were fluttering.
"I—I'll go get the doctor."
She dropped the sentence and turned to bolt, but before she could take a step, a large hand clamped firmly around her wrist.
Suzie froze. Sensing that he was trying to sit up, she quickly pressed the button on the side panel to adjust the bed, raising the headboard so he was slightly elevated.
"Water," Jamie rasped, his voice weak.
