The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 521

Outside the hospital emergency room, Aaron Stillman paced the hallway, putting on a flawless act of a frantically worried assistant.

Suzie Sterling sat on the bench opposite the doors. Her palms were slick with nervous sweat, her hands wringing together endlessly as her gaze darted up to check if the red 'In Use' light above the ER doors had flickered off.

Her stomach churned with anxiety, the terror of the moment still gripping her tight. Back in the stairwell, she had clearly seen him plant his feet securely. Plus, his back had been toward the wall, not the open drop of the staircase.

Logically, with the amount of force she'd used to shove him, even if he stumbled, he should have leaned toward the wall. Moreover, she remembered one of his hands maintaining a white-knuckled grip on the railing...

How on earth did he tumble all the way down the stairs?

And when her foot had slipped, in that split second, he had been fast enough to catch her. So how did he end up falling himself?

Aaron, while pretending to be consumed by pacing, kept stealing glances at Suzie. Seeing the color drain completely from her face as her expression grew more grim, he hurried over.

"Ms. Sterling, please try not to worry too much. The doctors here are top-tier. Mr. Baylor is going to be just fine."

Suzie stared blankly, giving a few numb nods in response.

Aaron continued his attempts to soothe her. "Remember that time he went up to the mountains to find Martha to ask about you, and he fell off that steep incline? He didn't sustain life-threatening injuries then, either. A short flight of stairs is nothing compared to that. Take a breath."
