Perhaps out of embarrassment, Lydia stammered and muttered, "Who knows if one of you just hid it in there..."
Hearing this, Suzie picked up the watch and said coldly, "Ms. Lynn, you know full well whether you forgot it yourself or not."
With that, Suzie turned on her heel and walked out. No matter how much Lydia yelled after her, she didn't stop until she had gone all the way upstairs to the front desk.
Lydia hurried after her, glaring at Suzie as she caught her breath, and snapped, "What kind of trick are you playing with me?"
Suzie gave Lydia a sideways glance, strolled over to Cora, gently tipped the girl's chin up, and said sharply, "See this? You hit my employee. Compensation and an apology—neither is optional. Do you want to apologize first or discuss the compensation?"
Lydia followed Suzie's gesture and looked at Cora. She had been too anxious earlier, and Cora had been avoiding her ever since the watch went missing.
When she ran into Cora again, the young girl's aggrieved look had felt incredibly manipulative to her, which only fueled her anger, leading her to slap the girl in a fit of rage.
But now, the watch had been found, and it didn't look like Cora had stolen it and hidden it in the storage pouch.
Looking at the imposing, undeniable pressure radiating from the studio owner, she suddenly felt out of her depth.
However, with so many people watching, apologizing was out of the question.
Thinking this, Lydia maintained her haughty attitude and argued, "Your employee refused to cooperate with the investigation and was insubordinate to me. Who knows if she didn't sneak the watch back into the makeup room while she was hiding, seeing that things had blown up? Don't think you can all gang up and put on an act to bully me."
