Orion sighed heavily. "You'll have to ask Aaron about that; he should have some solid leads by now. But seriously, Jamie, whoever is running this place has the juice to run a massive illegal operation out in the open without a single whistleblower surviving. Their background isn't going to be simple. You need to watch your back."
Jamie ignored the warning. His eyes darkened as he issued his next set of orders.
"Go find Aaron. Tell him to move Mia into the room next door. As for that actress—Delilah whatever-her-name-is—put a guard on her. When she wakes up, bring her to me."
Orion nodded. Just as he reached the door, Jamie's voice stopped him.
"Tell Aaron to come here the second he finishes securing the perimeter."
"Got it. I'll head over now."
Once Orion left, Jamie turned off the harsh overhead lights, leaving only a soft, warm glow from the floor lamp.
He walked back to the bed and sat down slowly on the edge.
His large hand gently brushed a stray lock of hair from Suzie's forehead. The moment his fingers brushed against her skin, the sickening image of Myron Finch looming over her flashed in his mind.
Jamie slowly pulled his hand back, his fists clenching so tightly his knuckles popped. A vein throbbed violently at his temple.
He couldn't even stomach the thought of what would have happened if he hadn't shown up tonight, or if Orion hadn't miraculously spotted her.
A terrifying, delayed shock washed over him. He suddenly felt like he had let Myron off far too easy.
