"That makes sense," Aaron nodded thoughtfully, before asking the final question. "And... Myron Finch? The beating he took will keep him in the hospital for a good while. How do you want him handled tomorrow?"
Jamie's brow furrowed in utter disgust. After a long silence, his voice dropped to a lethal cadence.
"Since I can't legally kill him, make sure he wishes he was dead. I want him ruined. Publicly and financially. I know you've already gathered substantial evidence regarding his mistress—leak every humiliating detail to the press. Turn him into a national pariah. And hand over everything illegal to the police. The second the sun comes up, end his life as he knows it."
"Yes, Mr. Baylor," Aaron replied firmly, before adding a pertinent detail. "Sir, Myron's son, Grady Finch, attends the same kindergarten as your children. They're in the same class."
Jamie let out a dark, mocking scoff. "Once they're publicly disgraced, they'll pull him out on their own. If they don't, have them expelled."
"Understood, sir."
...
The next morning.
Dawn.
Suzie's eyes fluttered open. Her blurred vision slowly focused on strings of crystal beads and heavy, luxurious velvet drapes.
An antique-style bed? Where was she? How did she get here?
She massaged her throbbing temples, struggling to prop herself up. From this angle, she finally got a clear view of the side of the bed.
Jamie Baylor's imposing frame was hunched over, one arm draped casually across the mattress.
His normally piercing eyes were closed in sleep. His brows were slightly knit together, and a few stray locks of hair fell across his forehead, giving him a rugged, untamed look.
Suzie frowned, her gaze trailing down his body. He was sitting directly on the carpeted floor next to the ornate bedframe.
The way he was sleeping against the mattress looked exactly like a devoted bodyguard keeping watch over a VIP.
