Suzie kept her head bowed, her gaze fixed on the floor, and simply shook her head.
Jamie cleared his throat. "When you woke up, you didn't instantly assume I was the one who took advantage of you. I'm glad about that."
She didn't respond. Maybe the environment had immediately reminded her of last night's dinner, leading her to suspect Myron. Or perhaps even she was surprised that she hadn't assumed the worst of Jamie.
"I video-called the kids," he continued softly. "They're doing great, so don't worry. Once your headache fades, I'll take you to the doctor for a full check-up to make sure you're okay."
Suzie's hands tightly gripped the hem of her shirt. Had his memory magically returned, or had he been faking the amnesia all along?
Still looking down, she replied in a flat tone, "That won't be necessary. What did you want to talk about?"
His expression turned serious. "How much do you actually know about Delilah Mercer?"
Hearing that name finally piqued her interest. She remembered Delilah passing out on the table first, but Mia claimed the girl had deliberately lured her there.
"I didn't know her before," Suzie said slowly. "Yesterday was only the second time she came to the studio."
Her answer made Jamie's face darken. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he looked furious. Suzie merely glanced at him before looking away, but his sharp reprimand immediately followed.
"You've only met her twice, and you accepted an invitation to an unfamiliar place?! Did you learn nothing from the incident with Yasmine Calloway?! Do you have any idea how worried I was when you disappeared last time? You never said a word about what happened! I'm still having my people dig into whatever Yasmine was plotting against you."
