"Thank God you're okay. Going out for dinner shouldn't be a death trap. Please, Suzie, stop crying. It's over now."
Suzie was still processing Mia's words. She couldn't understand why Myron Finch had targeted her. Even if he was a creep, they barely knew each other. Plus, the man had a family—wasn't he afraid of going to prison?
Aaron Stillman wouldn't lie about what happened last night, and Mia's retelling only confirmed the horrors. Yet, Suzie still couldn't fathom that someone who looked as sweet and fragile as Delilah Mercer could harbor such a vicious heart.
As her mind wandered, Mia whispered, "Suzie... did you change your clothes?" She glanced toward the door and leaned in closer. "Aaron said you were running a fever last night. Mr. Baylor had him bring a doctor over, and he stayed by your side the entire night. Your clothes... did he change them?"
Realizing what she just said, Mia clamped a hand over her mouth. "I'm so sorry, I'm talking too much..."
Suzie stayed silent for a moment before slowly replying, "Does your head hurt? Mine is killing me."
Mia nodded vigorously. "Yeah, I felt like my skull was splitting open when I woke up. It's still throbbing."
Just then, the door clicked open. They both looked up to see Jamie Baylor walk in, followed by a server. The server placed a tray with two glasses of water and a box of medication on the table before quietly leaving.
