Suzie stared up at the man looming mere inches above her, her cheeks burning. His bloodshot eyes were heavy with a raw, desperate sorrow, and his breath smelled of expensive alcohol and sharp tobacco.
He was drunk, and he was losing his mind again. During the day, he had played the perfect, respectful gentleman, but now the mask had completely slipped, revealing the obsessive, unyielding man he truly was.
Suzie pushed against his chest with all her might, trying to rip his hands away, but he held her face firmly, his dark eyes fixed on hers.
Her gaze turned icy. "Jamie Baylor, it is never going to happen for us. In this lifetime or the next. You need to drop this delusion and—mph!"
Before the words could leave her mouth, his lips crashed down on hers, swallowing the rest of her sentence.
The hand cupping her cheek slid to the back of her head, while his other hand firmly grasped her jaw, holding her in place.
The kiss was frantic, filled with a reckless, consuming desperation. He forced her lips apart, his tongue claiming hers with a fierce, punishing heat that left no room to breathe.
Her struggles were entirely useless against his overwhelming strength. Every time she tried to cry out, the muffled protests were instantly devoured by his mouth.
His breathing grew heavy and ragged, a dark, scorching fire burning in his eyes.
She lost track of time. His scalding lips trailed down to her earlobe, then the sensitive skin of her neck, kissing her with that same ruthless, unbridled intensity.
"Jamie... do you have any idea what you're doing?! Let me go!" Suzie gasped between forced breaths, thrashing against him.
"I'm loving you. And I'm proving that you love me too," he murmured against her skin, not stopping the assault of his lips for a single second. His massive frame stayed flush against hers, pinning her to the mattress.
Suzie could feel the distinct, heavy shift in his body. In an instant, her face burned so hot she thought she might spontaneously combust.
