Hearing Stella's logic, Suzie had to admit it made an uneasy amount of sense. They walked out of the room together, pulled Hayden aside, and laid out their suspicions.
Hayden listened intently, agreeing that it was a solid theory. After a quick word with the rest of the group, he grabbed his keys and headed straight for the police station.
Suzie glanced toward the expansive living room. Caden and Eleanor were on the floor, playing with the kids, while Oliver sat in a far corner, his expression heavy and unreadable.
Just as she was about to look away, Oliver caught her eye. He stood and closed the distance between them. "Stella, could you go keep them company? I need a word with Suzie."
"Sure," Stella said smoothly, slipping away to join the kids.
"Let's... let's go out to the balcony," Suzie said softly.
She grabbed two mugs of coffee, carrying them outside and setting them on the small patio table. She gestured for Oliver to sit.
"I'm fine, Oliver. Once we get to the bottom of this, everything will be okay."
Oliver looked at her with tired eyes. He could tell she hadn't slept a wink; her face was pale, and the dark circles under her eyes were impossible to hide.
After a long silence, he reached across the table and took her hand.
Startled, Suzie tried to pull back, but his grip was firm.
"Suzie," he said, his voice rough. "Just listen to me."
