“Your assistant, Josie, went to Lumina Studio. Did you know that?”
Hearing this, Lexi’s hand, still clutching the camera, began to tremble. After a long moment, a low voice emerged from deep in her throat. “Impossible. I called her a few days ago after I was discharged. She answered. She told me she took care of everything I asked. I was recovering at home for a few days, and only when I came in today did I find out you gave the whole project to Suzie!”
“Is that so?” Harrison's voice remained even and unhurried, but held a firm conviction. “Think back. Did she contact you at all while you were in the hospital? Did she ever even visit you?”
The day Lexi was hospitalized, Josie had submitted her resignation, claiming she was moving back to her hometown. She hadn't mentioned anything else. It was only recently that Harrison had learned she’d joined Lumina Studio.
At Harrison's words, Lexi quickly put down the camera and fumbled for her phone in her shoulder bag. She dialed Josie's number again and again. Only after numerous failed attempts did she finally give up, her eyes red with frustration.
Just then, a colleague held out their phone to Lexi. “Lexi, you should see this.”
Lexi, already seething, glanced at the industry news on the screen, and a new wave of fury washed over her reddened eyes.
Josie! That traitor!
First, she'd botched the simple task of harassing Suzie, and now she dared to pull the rug out from under her while she was sick.
Harrison, seeing this, walked slowly toward them, his voice lower than before.
“Ladies, shall we take this to the office?”
“Is there anything else that can't be said here?” Lexi shot back.
Still fuming, her tone toward Harrison was no longer that of a respectful subordinate but of someone ready for a fight.
