The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 82

Every word Suzie said was final. It was as if she were seizing the moment to unleash all her pent-up frustration and declare her complete separation from Margaret and the entire Sterling family.

Without a moment's hesitation, she turned and walked away.

While Margaret was still on the ground, clinging to Jamie’s leg, Suzie quickened her pace. Just as she’d hoped, Jamie couldn't follow her without making an even bigger scene. He was a powerful man, but he wasn’t about to kick a woman in public.

After walking some distance, Suzie felt the last of her energy drain away, the earlier struggle having taken its toll. Her body felt heavy and drained, and before long she had to slow down.

She hesitated for a moment before indulging the urge to glance back.

In the distance, Margaret was still desperately holding her pose, her face a mask of despair. Suzie could tell she was still wailing, undoubtedly begging Jamie for something. Oliver’s investigation had revealed that Margaret had shown up at the Baylor Group headquarters more than once, demanding to see Jamie, only to be thrown out by security each time.

Margaret was clearly still clinging to the hope that Jamie could save the Sterling family. If she truly had no hope, her personality suggested she would have already gone to the media, exposing Suzie and Jamie’s past relationship to cause a massive scandal.

Lost in thought, Suzie saw Aaron finally step in. His movements were anything but gentle as he reached down to pull Margaret away.

Just as she was about to turn away for good, her gaze accidentally met Jamie’s. His stare was so sharp it made her stomach twist.

*What are you looking at, you bastard? Serves you right for getting yourself into this mess!* Suzie shot him a venomous glare before quickly turning her head, taking a deep breath, and continuing on her way.

She walked on, gently touching the fresh scratches on her skin. The frustration simmering inside her was impossible to put into words. Just a little while ago, she’d been feeling a flicker of happiness about her work. Now, Margaret had ruined it all. After all this time, she still wouldn't let her go.

Jamie’s voice was surprisingly calm, his tone unusually gentle, as if he wasn't the same man who had stood there moments ago with a cold, severe expression while her mother clung to his leg.

But Suzie wasn’t buying it. She had no intention of being cordial.

She curled her lip into a sneer. “None of your damn business!”

She tried to step around him, but Jamie effortlessly moved to block her again. The scene was all too familiar; she had been through this countless times before and after their divorce. He would either grab her arm or simply stand in her way, refusing to let her leave.

This man was utterly insane. A profound sense of weariness washed over her.
