He reassured her, "Don't worry, the professor adores you. He won't lose his temper."
Clara pressed her lips together, still feeling incredibly guilty, and took a sip of the tea he handed her.
Watching her, Leo considerately changed the subject to the upcoming exhibition the day after tomorrow, trying to distract her.
"...From what I've heard, Julian Lowell will be there too. He asked the organizers for two tickets. He's probably bringing that 'sister' of his."
Clara froze for a second.
But she found she didn't really care.
Anyway, once the design exhibition was over, she would be gone.
Leo patted her shoulder, sounding quite eager.
"When the time comes, let him take a good look at just how brilliant the woman he lost truly is."
Clara couldn't help but smile.
Suddenly, she was also quite looking forward to seeing what Julian's reaction would be when he saw her there...
...
Soon, around half past ten, Marcus Thorne finally arrived.
He was dressed in a traditional tunic suit and held a rigid, upright posture. Combined with his stern, unreadable expression, he looked incredibly cold and unapproachable.
Clara and Leo immediately stood up upon hearing him enter, greeting him in unison.
"Professor."
Marcus swept his gaze over them, letting it linger on Clara for a moment longer, before giving a curt "Mm."
He set down his briefcase and took a seat opposite them.
"Waiting long?"
He didn't scold Clara.
Relieved, Clara looked at her mentor with deep apology...
Leo helped pour the tea and asked casually.
"Professor, what business do you have later? Why don't we grab lunch together before you go?"
Clara nodded in agreement.
"Next time," Marcus said, taking a sip of his tea. Looking right at Clara, he stated, "Julian Lowell invited me to lunch. He wants to introduce Seraphina Shaw to me as a prospective student."
Hearing this, both of them were stunned.
Clara's mind went completely blank...
Leo reacted first, his lips twitching slightly. Julian sure went above and beyond for his precious little sister.
