Three years of loving him, three days to erase myself from his world novel Chapter 49

The next morning.

After days of relentless blizzards, the winter sun finally broke through the clouds.

Clara quickly got dressed, grabbed her purse, and headed out the door.

As she descended the grand staircase, the entire mansion was dead silent, save for the faint echo of her own footsteps.

She instinctively shot a glance toward the study and Seraphina's bedroom.

Not a single sound.

They were clearly already gone.

A dark shadow flickered across Clara's eyes. Taking a deep breath, she picked up her pace.

For three agonizing years, Julian had operated exactly like this. He came and went as he pleased, never bothering to inform her of his schedule or whereabouts. He had never once treated her like an actual girlfriend.

Because she meant absolutely nothing to him.

But if it were Seraphina? He would have moved heaven and earth to keep her informed.

"Oh, you're up! I've kept breakfast warm for you. Would you like to eat now?"

Susan, who had been pruning the roses in the conservatory, set down her shears and hurried over.

Clara refused to take her bitterness out on the staff. Stopping at the bottom of the stairs, she offered a gentle smile.

"I'll pass, Susan. Thank you."

"Oh... well, let me pack it up in a container. You can eat it on your way to the office."

"No, really. It's fine."

"If you say so..." Susan sighed, suddenly remembering something. She scurried toward the living room, calling over her shoulder. "Oh, by the way! Mr. Lowell had a package delivered for you before he left this morning. Take a look..."

Clara's face instantly turned to stone. She had zero interest in anything involving Julian Lowell.

Ignoring the maid, she marched straight to the entryway console and grabbed a random set of car keys from the bowl.

Deflecting the topic entirely, she asked, "What kind of mood was Julian in this morning?"

She had personally handed him the gift box last night. There was no way he hadn't seen the contents by now.

Susan stopped dead in her tracks, turning to look at her as she racked her brain.

She replied, "He seemed totally normal. Exactly like always. Just cold and detached. He had breakfast with Seraphina and then they left together..." She then turned back toward the sofa.

Clara froze for a few seconds before absolute, terrifying clarity washed over her.

Julian had absolutely seen the contents of the box.

And it hadn't affected him in the slightest.

Whether she stayed or vanished into thin air, he truly didn't give a damn.
