He cut straight to the chase. "How is Grandma?"
Felipa kept a tight, affectionate grip on Yvette's hand, smiling in relief. "She's going to be fine! She's out of the woods, they're just prepping her to be moved. It's all thanks to Yvette being here all day, holding everything together for us. She was injured in the chaos today too, but she completely ignored her own pain to run around managing the crisis. She stepped up and handled all of your responsibilities, coordinating with the specialists and allocating resources flawlessly. She made me and your grandfather feel so secure!"
Yvette looked up at Tristan with practiced modesty. "I was just doing what anyone in my position would do. It's really nothing."
The red light above the ER finally switched off. Belinda was being rolled out.
Tristan stepped forward, placing a reassuring hand on Yvette's shoulder. "Go get some rest."
Yvette didn't put up a fight. She nodded obediently and gracefully took her leave.
After all, Belinda was about to wake up. When she did, Felipa and Yasmin would undoubtedly sing Yvette's praises and ensure the old lady knew exactly who had saved the day.
And Nova?
Nova was off hiding somewhere, playing dead.
As the medical team wheeled Belinda out, the frail old woman reached out in a daze, her trembling fingers weakly wrapping around Tristan's wrist.
Tristan leaned in, assuming she needed him.
Instead, he heard her slurring, desperate whispers. "Nova... Nova... my sweet girl, please be safe... Nova..."
Abdul, who had just rushed out of his room, heard every word. His face hardened into a fierce scowl as he glared at Tristan. "Where exactly is Nova right now? Your grandmother loves and protects her with her life. She literally collapsed from the shock of what happened to her, and that girl doesn't even have the basic decency to show up and check on her? Is this acceptable behavior?! Go drag her here right now!"
Abdul may have bickered with his wife over the years, but he loved her fiercely.
He had never taken a mistress or strayed; they had built their empire together and stayed by each other's side for a lifetime.
As he yelled, his eyes were bloodshot with unshed tears.
"Her child is gone. She is recovering at another hospital," Tristan replied, lowering his gaze. His face was a mask of stone, his tone entirely devoid of any discernible emotion.
Abdul's fury only skyrocketed.
"Your mother lost a child before you and your sister were born, and she didn't throw a melodramatic fit like this! Go to her and tell her I am ordering her to come here. If she refuses, tell her she can figure out her brother's legal mess all by herself!"
Abdul was trembling so violently with rage he nearly collapsed.
