But looking ahead to the future, "If a two-year-old child isn't coached by anyone, would she naturally use such strongly possessive terms like 'Daddy-Brother-in-law'?"
"Maybe, I don't know," Nova murmured, lowering her head as her fingers brushed over the successfully executed agreements.
Tristan's fingerprints were permanently stamped on them.
"Samuel, is my..." She couldn't even bring herself to say the word 'daughter' out loud. "Are all ties officially severed?"
"Once the divorce is finalized, those two agreements will go into full effect," Samuel assured her. "As for whether you tricked him into signing them through a bait-and-switch, he has no proof. Even if he tries to drag this into court later, he won't win. He can't prove a thing."
This was exactly why executives suffered massive corporate losses when they carelessly signed contracts without reading them.
Nova sealed the two documents away safely. Feeling paranoid about keeping them nearby, she told Samuel, "I'll just deliver these directly to Professor Mathew so he can lock them up for me."
Samuel, assuming she wanted him to hold onto them, replied, "Alright then. I'll come by tomorrow to drop off the new work contracts, and you can just slip those agreements into the business folder for me."
Nova fell silent for a moment. "But since I chose to maximize my leverage instead of suing, Kieran's smear campaign is still out there. It might negatively impact our upcoming partnerships."
She still felt incredibly guilty toward Samuel.
He just laughed. "Businessmen only care about who can make them money. Nobody gives a damn about rumors. Sure, we're all in tech and research, but at the end of the day, everyone's chasing a paycheck. None of them are all that noble. Besides, in a few weeks when your recovery period is over, Professor Mathew is going to feed you endless resources and connections. He's taking you to meet the real heavyweights in government and military circles! That's what you need to be focusing on. People like Yvette Sellers could live a hundred lifetimes and never even cross those thresholds."
Nova couldn't sleep that night. She kept opening the live feed on her phone to check on Latonia in the hospital.
And she kept glancing over at the locked drawer holding the two agreements.
She eventually drifted off, but when she woke up, Tristan was nowhere to be seen.
It was for the best. After signing something like that, his absence was a relief.
When she went downstairs, Felipa had already prepared a full spread. She waved Nova over, saying, "Tristan actually came back late last night. I saw him heading toward the master bedroom, but when he checked on you, you were fast asleep. He was worried about disturbing your rest after your surgery, so he slept in the guest room and left early this morning. But before he left, he said he'll make sure to come back and keep you company from now on!"
Nova was surprised.
He had actually come back last night.
