Tonight Her Love Ended novel Chapter 46

"I had a little money left, so I hired a caregiver and moved here. I didn't want you to worry, so I only ever told you the good news. But the caregiver... he..."

Nova understood immediately. She stepped forward and pulled back her father's sleeve. Seeing that there wasn't a single patch of unbruised skin left, she froze in horror.

She never imagined Tristan's love for Yvette extended so far that he would blindly indulge her family.

For the sake of Yvette's relatives, he had tossed her paralyzed father—a man recovering from a severe stroke—out of a medical facility without even notifying her.

Seeing her father in such a miserable state, Nova felt a crushing wave of heartbreak and regret. "Dad, I'm so sorry! It's my fault for being so useless, it's my—"

Lawrence shook his head. Mindful of her supposed pregnancy, he held back the more gruesome details of what the retreat staff had done to him.

He simply asked, "I saw the family portrait from the Forrester banquet online. They were calling Yvette the future hostess, and it said Mr. Forrester is officially single again. What's going on? When did you two divorce? Will you get custody of the baby?"

Nova pressed her lips together. Even now, reduced to skin and bones, he was still prioritizing her well-being.

She couldn't help but think of the past. The Clarke family had been businesspeople, but they were never cutthroat or greedy.

Her mother died when she and Ian were eight. Her father never remarried, taking over her mother's philanthropic work instead. Ian inherited that same compassionate spirit, funneling a massive portion of the company's profits into national infrastructure and scholarships for underprivileged students.

She never expected the company to crash... and even now, her father and brother still refused to tell her the true cause of the bankruptcy.

After a moment of hesitation, Nova carefully explained the sequence of events to Lawrence.

Even though she omitted the most humiliating details, the sheer injustice of it made Lawrence's blood boil. His usually refined face twisted in raw fury. "He... he actually got together with the Sellers family? And... and he treated you like this?! Tristan Forrester, he—"

"Dad, please, don't get worked up! Dad!"

Lawrence was shaking uncontrollably.

Hearing the commotion, Samuel rushed in to soothe him. "Mr. Clarke, it's over now. Nova has seen the truth and is preparing to divorce Tristan. Plus, she's coming back to the company to work on government projects!"

In that moment, the blood in Nova's veins turned to ice.

Tears welled in Lawrence's eyes. "I never wanted to tell you this, but... Nova, I can't bear to watch you waste your heart on a man that cold-blooded! Loving absolutely anyone else in this world is more worthwhile than loving Tristan Forrester!"

Nova could no longer hold back her tears. They fell heavily, one after another.

Lawrence gripped her arm tightly.

"Swear to me. Swear you will divorce Tristan!"

"No matter if he suddenly claims to love you, or regrets how he treated you, or tries to win you back."

"Even if the almighty Tristan Forrester drops to his knees in front of you, begging for forgiveness and claiming it was all a misunderstanding! You are absolutely forbidden from softening your heart or ever going back to him!"
