Lola had been locked up in the secret base in Moriane for several days.
Warren stood at the entrance of the secret room and looked through the metal bars installed on the window. "Quake, based on your capabilities, as long as you're willing to identify the issues on the schematic and give us a suitable modification plan, we'll let you go.
"On top of that, we'll also sing our praises about you, so why are you unwilling to do as we say?"
Lola peeled her eyes open slowly, sitting listlessly in a corner of the room. Her lips were dry and cracked, and she looked incredibly haggard.
It was all the Millers' fault. She had assumed that they were going to accept her into their fold as their daughter-in-law, but instead, they had tricked her into leaving the hospital only to deliver her into the Morianese's clutches.
There was dried blood at the corner of Lola's mouth. Her voice was cold when she retorted, "I already told you that I'm not Quake! I wasn't the one who participated in the modification challenge. There's no point in forcing me to modify the schematic. You should look for Lucy instead!"
Asher looked anxious as he stood outside the door. "Why are you shifting their attention to Ms. Lucy, Lola? She's innocent in this situation. They'll let you go as long as you modify the schematic."
Asher was beyond panicked. Although the Morianese allowed him to leave, and the Millers were pushing him to return home, he was too worried about Lola to leave by himself.
The Morianese didn't stop him from staying. In fact, his presence might be helpful in convincing Quake to do as they wanted.
Lola's eyes reddened at Asher's words. She dashed at the window and tried to grab the metal bars. "Have you fallen for Lucy, Asher Miller?" she demanded. "Do you like her now? Is that why you're speaking on her behalf?"
Her eyes were bloodshot as she looked at Warren and gritted out her next words through clenched teeth. "You've got the wrong person. I'm not Quake. I'm not the one who was in the modification challenge. You'll know that I'm telling the truth if you start an investigation."
Warren pulled out a stack of photographs, wearing an icy expression. "If you're not Quake, why did you show up at so many events using her name? The joke is getting stale, Quake. My patience is also limited."
"I'm really not Quake! I'm just a fake! I don't know how modification works at all!"
Lola deeply regretted pretending to be Quake. She grabbed the metal bars and roared, "You need to look for Lucy. She's the real Quake! Her modification skills are so good that she can definitely solve whatever problem you have. I was just pretending to be Quake!"
She had forgotten all about Noelle since she had never seen Noelle modify any vehicles. Furthermore, Noelle didn't confront her and accuse her of being a fake. As a result, Lola was convinced that Noelle wasn't Quake. Even if Lucy wasn't Quake, at the very least, she was more skilled than Noelle.
Warren's expression was as dark as coal. Meanwhile, Asher looked extremely disappointed. He didn't think that Lola would be so spineless.
Noelle and the other racers gathered in the Brindley Grand Hotel on the eve of the International Grand Prix. The list of racers participating in the Grand Prix had been released. As the top racer of Stonegate, Noelle was a league above the rest.
Hunter was also present at the gathering, joining the team as part of the staff. The engineers, who usually behaved arrogantly, were uncharacteristically polite when Hunter was around.
Arthur Matterson, the second-best racer in Stonegate, was also present, along with a few other substitute drivers. They had performed well during the last race and had participated in many races in the current season.
If Noelle hadn't suddenly appeared and secured the top spot, one of them wouldn't have ended up as a substitute driver. It was just a shame that only two racers were allowed to participate in the International Grand Prix.
Since Noelle and Arthur had taken the top two spots, the other racers had no other choice but to wait on the sidelines.
Jude was the coach in charge of the team. Before they departed for Emberfield, he set up a meeting to speak to everyone.
Jamie McKee, a substitute racer who was standing behind Arthur, grew excited when he saw Noelle. "You must be Ms. Quinn, Stonegate's professional racer who's the talk of the town on the internal forums."
He smiled before continuing, "Since you're the top racer this time around, you must be ready to lead our team to first place, right?"
