Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 187

Jamie was also feeling dissatisfied. Although Stonegate's Racing Team didn't have great results, he had still been an official racer. It was one thing for a woman to join them without warning, but it was a whole other matter altogether for him to be relegated to a substitute driver.

Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do. He wasn't as skilled as Arthur, so there was no way he could replace the latter as the second racer for the International Grand Prix.

However, with Cassandra pouring oil on the fire, Jamie also grew more indignant. "What do you expect me to do? The higher-ups are the ones who put the team together. I can't do anything but swallow my grievances even if I don't agree with their decisions."

Cassandra felt like laughing when she watched him storm off in a huff.

There hadn't been many female racers in the Stonegate Racing Team before Noelle had joined their ranks. The racers' skills had been on par with one another, but with how Noelle became the top racer immediately after joining the team, she made them look incredibly average.

Cassandra knew that she was jealous of Noelle, but she refused to acknowledge it. It was why she decided to fan the flames of animosity among the other racers.

The Stonegate Racing Team was scheduled to depart for Emberfield tomorrow.

Hunter followed Noelle into her room. She turned to look at him, asking, "What do you think you're doing following me into my room, Hunter? The International Grand Prix hasn't even started yet."

Hunter wrapped his arms around her waist and kicked the door closed, cutting them off from the outside world. He lowered his head to stare into her eyes. They were mesmerizing like two bottomless pools. The corner of his lips twitched upward. "You should know what I want to do."

Noelle returned his stare steadily, her eyes glimmering seductively. Hunter moved closer to her. His lips were a hair's breadth away from brushing against hers when he suddenly stopped, filling Noelle with confusion.

Normally, Hunter would kiss her whenever he wanted to, which made her wonder why he was being uncharacteristically polite that day. As Noelle got lost in her thoughts, he kissed the tip of her nose, her forehead, and her cheeks, intentionally avoiding her lips.

He met her confused stare after he was done planting kisses all over her face, explaining, "The International Grand Prix starts tomorrow. I don't want to distract you."

Irritation spread through Noelle. He shouldn't have followed her in the first place if he didn't want to distract her. How did he expect her not to be distracted when she could see him anytime and anywhere now that he was part of the team?

He was nothing but a hypocritical jerk!

Instead of poking holes through his flimsy excuse, Noelle simply smiled and said, "Then you shouldn't go with us to Emberfield tomorrow. I'll let the manager know and tell him to remove you from the team."

"Don't you dare."

Hunter wasn't going to go anywhere. He was determined to stay by Noelle's side since it was her official return to the international racing stage.

"Don't worry, Mr. Haberkorn," Juned replied determinedly. "We've taken all the necessary precautions since this is Ms. Quinn's return to the international stage. There's no way anyone will have the guts to lift a finger against her!"

Relief washed through Hunter at Juned's reassurance. He turned to look at the door that was sealed shut.

Six years ago, he had failed to protect Noelle when her enemies had schemed against her out of fear of her winning the Tempest Cup. He refused to allow history to repeat itself six years later.

"Deliver a couch to me now," Hunter ordered in an icy tone.

"What are you planning to do, Mr. Haberkorn?" Juned asked, sounding confused.

"I'm going to sleep in front of her door tonight," Hunter answered, his lips twitching upward.

Since Noelle had kicked him out of her room, surely she wouldn't mind if he retaliated in his own way. He wanted her to know that he had waited outside her door for a whole night, convinced that she would feel at least a little heartbroken on his behalf.

Just the thought made Hunter want to laugh.

Juned didn't know how to respond. He wasn't sure what had come over Hunter, but whenever Noelle was involved, Hunter would fight tooth and nail to be involved and refused to let anyone else have a chance. Even Juned felt moved by his persistence.
