During the break, Hunter returned to the hotel after being out for a while. He carried a tray and sat beside Noelle.
Hunter had a presence that drew attention. A few teammates had originally been sitting next to Noelle, but the moment he approached, they picked up their trays and left without needing a word from him.
Noelle looked up at him. He picked out a large drumstick for her and whispered, "I heard you helped the Quinns fix their car today. You're not the type to play the good Samaritan. Why'd you bother?"
The rift between Noelle and the Quinn family was something that couldn't be bridged. Without a compelling reason, she would never have offered a hand.
Noelle smirked as she bit into her food. "I did it because it sounded fun, and I made some extra cash. It's not as complicated as you think."
Hunter didn't believe that for a second. If it had been anyone else, fine—but the Quinns?
With everything he understood about her, he wouldn't have doubted her for a moment if she said she meant to wipe out the whole Quinn family.
He also knew Noelle wanted nothing to do with the Quinns. Otherwise, she would have revealed her identity long ago and fought them for control.
What the Quinn family viewed as priceless authority meant nothing to her.
"The Quinns are hosting a family banquet tonight. They invited me. It's a blind date between Liam and Sarah. Do you want to go watch the show?"
Under normal circumstances, Hunter would never attend something like this.
But the hosts were the Quinns, and he figured Noelle might be interested.
He was right. Noelle's eyes curved as she smiled. "Of course, we're going."
She wanted to see what the Quinn family looked like now.
The worse the Quinns were doing now, the more humiliating it would be for Raphael.
He had lacked competency back then, yet insisted on taking power. He had probably long since suffered the consequences of his own choices.
…
At 6:00 pm sharp, Noelle and Hunter arrived at the Quinn residence together.
Simon came to greet them. He paused for a moment when he saw Noelle.
"I didn't expect you to attend, Ms. Quinn. Liam was worried earlier that the two of you wouldn't come," he said with a smile. "Welcome, Ms. Quinn. Welcome, Mr. Haberkorn."
He lifted his chin toward Liam's direction. "Your future fiance is over there."
Sarah turned to look. Sure enough, a man in a suit was standing beside Simon, chatting with him. He simply wasn't as handsome as the man before her, and his presence fell short as well.
Sarah frowned. What was her brother thinking? Instead of introducing her to the best-looking man, he'd matched her with someone so plain.
She turned back to Hunter. "Aren't you from the Haberkorn family?"
As long as he was a Haberkorn from Brindley, she didn't care which one she ended up marrying. She didn't like the man with glasses. She liked the one standing before her.
Hunter raised an eyebrow. "I am, but I already have a girlfriend and a five-year-old daughter. She'll likely call you Aunt Sarah one day, so Ms. Quinn, you've clearly got the wrong man."
He tightened his hold around Noelle as he said it.
Sarah's mood soured instantly, and she turned to leave. She wasn't the type to snatch a man in public, but she genuinely preferred Hunter's looks. If a man like him were to be her husband, she would have no objections.
Liam was simply not what she wanted.
Disappointment washed over her. Simon had praised Liam countless times, yet in her eyes, Liam couldn't compare to Hunter at all.
