After finishing up, Maxine didn't return to her room right away. Instead, after several twists and turns, she went to Anne's room.
Anne had been waiting inside for a long time. "How did it go?"
A smile appeared on Maxine's face. "Don't worry. When I grabbed her, I made sure the essential oil seeped into her skin. Combined with our exclusive aromatherapy, she'll definitely be affected."
In fact, the more one tried to wash that essential oil off, the harder it was to remove. All it did was make it penetrate faster and deeper.
This was Anne's exclusive formula, one that hadn't even appeared on the market yet.
Even if someone investigated, they wouldn't be able to trace it back to her.
After all, only when the essential oil and the aromatherapy were used together would the toxicity reach its peak.
Using only the essential oil alone wouldn't cause any symptoms, nor would it lead to poisoning.
Anne stood up with a smile. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Ms. Clarkson, I'm glad you were willing to join hands with me to deal with Noelle. That shameless woman stole your fiance and humiliated you in public. We'll settle this score slowly."
Maxine also smiled broadly. "Don't worry. Even if it's traced to me, I won't expose you. Ms. Holt, thank you for introducing order projects to Clarkson Auto. I'll make sure to repay you once our automotive division stabilizes.
Anne smiled.
With just a small project, she had gained someone willing to charge forward for her without hesitation.
She'd definitely come out ahead in this deal.
…
Noelle took a shower and, because she was so exhausted, went to bed early. The cleaning staff had replaced the scents in the room with those that made one feel drowsy. So, Noelle slept so deeply that she didn't even notice when Hunter came back.
When the first ray of morning sunlight shone in, Noelle opened her sleepy eyes.
Then she jolted awake. Today was the qualifying round. She couldn't be late.
With that thought in mind, Noelle braced herself and tried to sit up. Yet, the next second, she fell heavily back onto the bed.
She felt a surge of panic as she tried to get up again, but she couldn't muster even a shred of strength. It felt as if her whole body had fallen apart.
Noelle lifted her hand and tried to clench it into a fist. No matter how hard she tried, no matter how much effort she put in, her palm remained limp and weak. It simply wouldn't close.
"Hunter!" Noelle cried out in terror.
Hunter had just finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, wiping his damp hair. "What's wrong, Honey?"
At that moment, Noelle didn't care about anything else. Her throat tightened as fear enveloped her.
