Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 100

Chapter 100

Iris’s POV

Without saying another word, I headed back to the car.

The car was heavy, filled with awkward silence from my outburst from before.

I stared at the window, chewing on the insides of my mouth. My reflection in the glass looked miserable, I felt miserable. Finally, I released a soft sigh.

“I’m sorry.”

I could see Jasmine and Shane looking at me from the reflection on the glass, but I didn’t turn my head, I just kept my eyes on the window. “I’m sorry for snapping like that. I shouldn’t have lost it.”

Jasmine was quiet for a moment. Then she sighed, “No. I’m sorry.”

That caught me off guard for a moment. I blinked and glanced at her. It was sarcastic or patronizing. She looked very sincere.

“I shouldn’t have pressed,” she continued softly. “If you didn’t want to talk about it, I should’ve respected that. I was just too curious, and that wasn’t fair.”

Her words hit me, and my chest tightened with guilt. “Still,” I muttered, “I didn’t have to bite your head off.”

“You had every right,” she said. “I pushed too far Friends don’t do that.”

For a while, none of us said anything. Then Shane cleared his throat loudly. “Well, this is awkward. Can we maybe change the subject?”

Jasmine and I exchanged a glance, and a small laugh escaped me.

“See?” Shane pointed at me with a smirk. “Progress.”

The tension in the car lessened just slightly. Jasmine rolled her eyes. “You’re uncomfortable because you’re not the center of attention”

“Hell yeah,” Shane shot back. “What do you think?”

I shook my head with an amused smile on my lips. The guilt in my chest was still there, but it felt lighter now.

The next hour passed quickly. We toured the gardens, and so many other places. Jasmine did most of the talking, while Shane added little comments.

The tour dragged on until my legs felt sore and my head ached from trying to pay attention.

Finally, Jasmine clapped her hands together. “Alright. That’s everything for today. Tomorrow

we can ”

“Tomorrow?” I groaned. “No, no, no. I have training tomorrow morning.”

She laughed. “Relax, I won’t drag you all over the place again. I’m just kidding.”

“Thank goodness,” I muttered, causing Shane to laugh.

“Don’t sound like it was so bad,” Jasmine teased. You had fun. Admit it.”

I rolled my eyes. “You and I clearly have different ideas of fun.”

Shane stretched his arms with a groan. “More like torture.

“Both of you are being dramatic.” Jasmine sighed, but she was smiling.

Despite my sarcasm, I had to admit the day hadn’t been as bad as I thought it would be. The kids at the playground were my favourite.

When we finally stopped at the front of the packhouse, I turned to Jasmine with a smile. ” Thank you for the tour, Jasmine. I really appreciate it.”

She smirked in response. “Tell me the truth. Did you enjoy it?”

I released an amused laugh. “It wasn’t all bad. The kids were… nice.”

Jasmine smiled. “They really liked you. You should come again.”

I didn’t answer, but I gave her a small nod.

After saying my goodbyes to Jasmine, Shane and made our way upstairs.

My body sagged with relief. Maybe this long day was finally over. Maybe I would get to rest.
