Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Iris’s POV

A loud snarl echoed through the air, and it was completely different from the rogue’s. It sounded stronger and more

commanding.

The rogues in front of me froze, and their ears twitched.

Then suddenly, a huge black wolf burst through the trees like a large blur.

He crashed into the rogue on top of me, sending it flying into a tree with a sickening crack.

I blinked, dazed. I didn’t understand what I was seeing. My vision was spinning, as my body got weaker.

The other two turned, snarling, but he was already on them. He tackled one to the ground, sinking his teeth into its throat. Blood sprayed all over.

One rogue tried to pounce, but he was faster. He turned midair, catching the wolf by the throat and slamming it into a tree so hard the bark split. The rogue didn’t get back up.

The last rogue backed away slowly. Then, with a whimper, it turned and vanished into the woods.

The black wolf didn’t chase it.

I watched, my breath stuck in my throat. The black wolf stood tall, breathing heavily with his fur soaked in blood, but none of it

was his blood.

His eyes weren’t red, and they didn’t burn with savageness.

They shone bright gold, and they gleamed with intelligence and intensity.

He was an Alpha.

My vision blurred, and I tried to sit up. Pain flared through every part of my body.

The wolf took a step forward, then shifted right in front of me.

His body transformed in seconds, bones cracking as fur vanished. Then a tall man stood in his place, completely naked. He

didn’t flinch.

He had midnightblack hair, but it was his eyes that caught my attention. He had warm brown eyes, nothing like the brutal force that I had just witnessed him partake in.

He took a slow step toward me. You’re bleeding,he said, his voice deep and unreadable.

I swallowed, taking shallow breaths as I struggled to stay conscious. I noticed.

He crouched beside me. Can I touch you?he asked.

I nodded weakly.

He moved carefully, pressing a hand to my bleeding arm. This is bad,he muttered. You’re losing too much blood.

He stepped closer, his brown eyes burned with intensity. Are you alone?

Yes.I mumbled weakly.

He narrowed his eyes at me. Why were you walking through rogueinfested woods alone, with no backup and no wolf?

I didn’t respond.

He sighed, glancing around. Where are you coming from?

Panic gripped me at his words, and I shook my head weakly.

Don’t take me back,I whispered hoarsely.

His brow furrowed. Back where?

Crescent Moon. Don’t take me back there.

His jaw tightened and his eyes darkened. I wasn’t planning to.

That was all I needed to hear.

My body finally gave out, and everything went dark.

I drifted in and out of consciousness.

Everything was hazy. I couldn’t tell what was real and what was a dream. Voices echoed like they were underwater. My body felt distant, numb and heavy, as if it didn’t belong to me.

But I could feel warmth. I could feel the slow rise and fall of a chest against my cheek, and I could hear the rhythm of a heartbeat. I was being carried by strong arms that held me gently and carefully.

His scent was unfamiliar, but sweet, like a mix of pine and fresh rain. It felt safe and comforting.

You’re alright,a low voice murmured close to my ear. You’re safe now.

I wanted to open my eyes, to see his face again, but my eyelids felt like they were made of stone. I released a soft sigh.

His grip tightened slightly, and he held me closer. I could feel his muscles as he walked through the forest.

I’ve got you,he said quietly. His voice was deep, and calm. It sounded nothing like Eric’s.

Eric.

The name alone brought a stab of pain to my chest that I felt even with the blood loss. I tried to block it out, but I couldn’t stop the memories from rushing in.

One second I was in the stranger’s arms, carried like something precious.

And the next second, I was back in the past.

I and Eric were younger. I was standing on the training field, laughing as Eric dropped beside me on the grass, sweaty and breathless. You’ve got potential,he said, ruffling my hair.

I blushed. Really?

He had smiled genuinely. That crooked, boyish grin that made my heart skip. Yeah. You just need to stop holding back.

The next memory came hard and fast.

We were sitting by the fire in the packhouse living room, late at night. Everyone else had gone to bed. I had been telling him about a book I liked, and he had been watching me with a warmth in his eyes as he listened intently to me.

The next memory was about that night, the night that ruined everything.

We had been drinking, because we were celebrating something. I couldn’t even remember what exactly it was. I had gone back to his room to check on him, and-

I snapped out of that memory quickly. It brought back painful emotions that I didn’t want to acknowledge.

A soft groan escaped my lips as I tried to turn.
