Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Eric’s POV

I glared at the phone, clenching my jaw.

Don’t call me about that woman again!I snapped. Do not disturb me with anything concerning her! I have better things to think about!

Then I hung up. Anger boiled within me.

I didn’t care about anything concerning Iris. Nothing they would tell me would make me care. I was done with her lies, manipulations and fake stunts for attention. As far as I was concerned, she could vanish off the face of the earth and it wouldn’t

matter.

I turned back to the living room.

Zara was on the couch in one of my hoodies with her legs folded under her. Tiffany was on the carpet, scrolling through her

tablet with a smile.

For the past few days, I have been here, with them. It had been peaceful, and quiet. There has been no drama, no mind games,

and no deceit from Iris.

It was exactly what I had always wanted.

So why the hell did I feel so unsettled? Iris hadn’t contacted me for days since that night.

I tried to shake the feeling off and walked over to Tiffany, ruffling her hair. Still playing that drawing game?I asked.

She gave a small smile and nodded. I’m winning. I just beat level twelve.

I gave a small smile. That’s my girl.

Eric,Zara said gently, glancing up at me. You’ve been amazing with her lately. You don’t know how much that means to

me.

I nodded. It’s the least I can do.

I sat beside her on the couch, letting my body sink into the cushions. But my mind wasn’t at ease. I kept trying to focus on something else apart from the nagging feeling in my mind. But then something caught the edge of my vision. It was Tiffany’s

red hoodie.

Evie had a red jacket with cute ears on the hood. I had sent it as a birthday present on one of her birthdays.

A memory flashed through my mind.

It was that day at the park. Evie had been laughing so hard as we all played tag.

You can’t catch me, Daddy!she yelled, giggling joyfully as I chased after her.

And when I finally caught her, she squealed, laughing until tears ran down her face. Again! Again!

I released a soft sigh as a small smile crossed my lips.

Eric?Zara’s voice pulled me back to reality. Are you okay?

Yeah,I muttered, brushing off the weird ache. Just tired.

But I wasn’t tired. I was distracted. Why the hell was I thinking about Evie?

Zara nodded and gave me a small smile. My chest tightened.

It had been my greatest wish for several years to be in a room like this with Zara. When she left me, I had been so lost and broken, but Iris had been there to-

I paused. Why was I bringing Iris into my thoughts? I shook my head, trying to brush off those thoughts.

I clenched my fists as another memory flashed through my mind.

That night.

That night Iris had done her little performancewhile Evie lay in her arms, shaking, barely breathing.

I had called it a stunt. I still remembered the words I said that night.

She’s faking it. Like her mother always does.

And Iris had screamed at me, almost like her throat was tearing apart. I could remember her begging and crying. It had looked so real, as if she wasn’t lying.

But
