Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 114

Chapter 114

Iris’s POV

Rowan clenched his jaw as if he was biting back his words. His mouth opened, closed, then opened again. Nothing came out.

The silence stretched. My heard pounded in my chest.

“Well?” I asked, my voice sharp. “Why should it concern you?”

Finally he exhaled hard through his nose, running a hand through his hair.

“It’s just “His voice came out tight. “You’re here as a guest. Walking around with his scent all over you makes it look like he has some sort of claim on you. Like a mate does, like he had marked you.”

I blinked. “Who cares?”

“People care about these things,” he said quickly. “They’ll assume things, or worse think less of you.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Well, I don’t care. I am my own person and I don’t allow people’s thoughts about me to affect me.”

“That’s not the point,” he shot back.

I folded my arms tighter. “So what? To keep the rumors quiet, you expect me to strip off a hoodie? Really?”

His

eyes narrowed. “It’s not just a rumor. Having people’s scent all of you is serious in a pack. It speaks louder than words. And right now you reek of Shane.”

I let out a dry laugh. “Well, I will tell them it s from his hoodie.”

The corner of his mouth twitched in frustration, “It doesn’t matter what you tell them. People will draw conclusions.”

I tilted my head, studying him. “That’s your big concern?”

“Yes,” he said too fast.

I knew it wasn’t the real issue.

I took a slow step closer with a small smirk, suddenly feeling the need to tease him gently. “Funny. You look like a jealous man, not a worried Alpha.”

His shoulders stiffened. “You’re imagining things.”

“No,” I said, my voice firm. “I’m not. Your jaw’s about to snap in half. You’ve been glaring at me like you’re about to bite someone. That’s not you being… concerned about my name.”

He ran a hand through his hair, his jaw tightened even more. “I’m trying to stop a problem before it starts.”

“Then why do you look like you’re ready to tear Shane apart?”

Rowan’s chest rose and fell. He took a small step toward me. “Because the idea of anyone claiming you makes me-” He stopped himself and looked away.

“Makes you what?” I pushed, suddenly curious, suddenly wanting to know.

His head turned back slowly. His brown eyes were darker now. “It makes me angry, he said finally, with a growl.

Something inside me skipped. “Why?”

He closed the gap between us until a small distance separated us. “Because,” he said, “I don’t like it.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“It’s the only one I’ve got.” He moved even closer. I caught the faint scent of pine and sweat. “And it’s enough.”
