Chapter 116
Iris’s POV
For a second I couldn’t move. The images from the dream rushed back so clearly I could almost feel his mouth on mine again, and the heat of his hands on my skin.
I forced my legs to move and crossed to the door. My hand hovered over the handle, my pulse already racing.
Another knock. “Iris?” His voice was low, sending a tingle through my stomach
I pulled the door open.
Rowan stood there, his brown eyes fixed on ine.
My heart skipped a beat.
“May I come in?” he asked, his gaze dropping briefly to my lips. It was so fast that I thought I imagined it.
I nodded before I could think and stepped aside. The room suddenly felt too small as he closed the door behind him.
“I brought this,” he said. He held out a black hoodie.
I hesitated before taking it. The hoodie was warm, and it smelled like him. The scent flooded over me, until my knees felt weak.
“Thank you,” I said, my voice shaking slightly.
There was a tense silence.
I swallowed hard, searching for something to break the tension. I lifted the hoodie slightly. “So now I’ll smell like you,” I said, forcing a small laugh. “Isn’t that a bit hypocritical? You were the one complaining about Shane’s scent earlier.”
Rowan’s lips twitched, but his voice came out rough. “Maybe it is.”
“But I would prefer you to wear my scent than Shane’s,” he admitted.
The possessive edge in his tone sent a shiver down my spine. I looked away, hoping he wouldn’t notice the flush creeping up my neck.
His nostrils flared, his gaze sharpened, and he clenched his jaw. My breath caught
His
eyes darkened. “You… smell different.” The voice was rough, almost a growl.
Heat flooded my face and went even lower. I knew what he meant. My heart pounded

out of control.
I instantly regretted opening the door. Rowan could probably smell my arousal from the dream.
“Different how?” I asked, though my voice was hoarse and we both knew the answer
Rowan took a slow step closer, his brown eyes flashed gold for a second. “I can smell it.”
“Rowan-” My voice cracked. I wanted to back away but my body refused to move.
Something in his stare made it hard to look away. The air between us became heavy, and charged.
I swallowed hard. My heart sped up.
Rowan took another step toward me. I backed up until the back of my knees was touching the edge of the bed.
His eyes flickered again, staying locked on mine. “Tell me to leave,” he said quietly.
The words caught me off guard.
“What?”
“If you want me to walk out, say it now.” His voice was dark. He didn’t move closer, but it was hard to breathe. “One word and I’ll be gone.”
My lips parted, but no sound came out. I should tell him to go. That was the sma thing. The safe thing.
Instead, silence rested between us.
“Iris,” he said again, softer but more dangerous, like he was warning me. “Tell me to leave before I do something we can’t take back.”
I opened my mouth, but the words died in my throat.
He waited, his muscles tight with control.
A dozen reasons to send him away danced through my head, but I couldn’t seem to hold on to any one of them. Each one slipped away like water.
Rowan’s jaw tightened. He took one more slow step until we were a few inches apart. “Last chance,” he said, almost like a whisper.
I exhaled shakily. But I still said nothing.

His nostrils flared again. “You’re not saying anything,” he murmured.
“I know,” I said, barely a whisper.
For a moment, neither of us moved. The air between us was tense.
Rowan reached up, brushing a loose strand of hair from my face softly.
As his fingers grazed my cheek, a small shiver ran down my spine.
His hand stayed there. “Last chance, Iris,” he said again.
My chest heaved, but I still didn’t speak.
Rowan’s eyes darkened fully, then slowly, he bent his head.
His lips met mine.
The kiss was slow and firm, but it sent a jolt through me that made my heart skip. For a second I froze, my breath hitched.
I found myself leaning toward him, and my hands gripped the front of his shirt without thinking.
Rowan made a low sound in his throat and deepened the kiss. I moaned into his mouth.
Then he pulled back abruptly, but it was only by an inch. His forehead rested agains mine as he stared into my eyes.
“I should stop,” he said hoarsely.
I was panting. “Then stop,” I whispered, though my fingers still held his shirt.
He glanced briefly at my hands with a small smile. “That’s not helping.”
Rowan shifted slightly as if to step back, but something in me reacted before I could think.
I tightened my grip and pulled him back down, kissing him again.
This kiss was harder and hungrier this time.
Rowan’s breath hitched. His hand slid to my back and pulled me closer to him.
Heat shot through me.
