Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Iris’s POV

Shane caught my expression the moment I stepped out of the training area. He winced and lifted his eyebrows as I approached.

“How bad was it this time?” he asked.

I ran a hand through my damp hair. “Lucas thinks I’m wasting his time.”

Shane sighed, walking beside me. “It’s been almost two weeks, right?”

“Yeah,” I muttered.

“Right.” He studied me for a moment, then shook his head. “You look paler than usual, almost like some sort of vampire.”

I shot him a glare, but there wasn’t much heat in it.

“I’m serious,” he said. “You’re dragging. Even in our private sessions, you barely do anything before I end the session for the day.

I winced. It was true. We had to pause our own training a week ago because I couldn’t keep up.

“You should go to the healer,” he said. “Maybe you caught something.”

I snorted. “Werewolves don’t get sick, Shane.”

He folded his arms. “Then explain why you look like you’re about to pass out half th time.”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m just tired. I just need more rest.”

“Being tired doesn’t last for weeks.” He gave me a pointed look. “And don’t tell me you’re tired because of training. Lucas is hard on everyone, but you used to keep up.”

I released a groan of frustration. “You sound like Lucas.”

“Good,” Shane said. “Because something’s off. Just because you’re a werewolf doesn’t mean you can’t fall ill.”

I opened my mouth to argue, but he cut me off.

“Is your wolf active?” He asked.

I frowned. “You know the answer to that.”

He shrugged. “Then we can’t rule out the fact that because your wolf is not active, you can fall ill.”

I shook my head. “No, I’m not ill.”

Shane sighed. “Stop being stubborn and go see a healer. There has to be a reason for your sudden tiredness these few weeks.”

I rubbed my arms. “I just need more rest.”

Shane groaned. “You’ve been saying that for weeks. If you don’t want to go to the healer for you, then go for the rest of us. We’re all tired of watching you look like you might collapse from a little breeze.”

I gave him a side-eye. “Now you’re just exaggerating.”

“No, I’m not. It’s the truth,” he countered.

I wanted to argue, but even that took energy I didn’t have. Especially as I knew how persistent Shane could be.

My body felt too heavy, and my head was pounding.

“Fine,” I said finally. “After lunch.”

He shook his head. “Now. Before you find another excuse.”

I opened my mouth, closed it, and finally sighed. He really wasn’t going to drop it.

We walked toward the pack clinic in silence.

My mind drifted, as it always did every day this past month.

Rowan.

I hated how easily his name slipped into my thoughts.

I hated how just the mere thought of him caused me to flush.

I hadn’t seen him since that morning. Not even once.

At first I thought he had left the pack for a meeting. But then Jasmine mentioned his name one evening as we chatted in my room. She had said something about him handling border patrol schedules.

So he was here, but he was just very good at avoiding me.

Though, I knew I barely went anywhere that he might be. And that was fine with me.
