“You’re drifting off, probably thinking about something.” He studied Whatever it is, it’s been eating you alive for a long time. Do you want to talk about it?”

I pressed my lips together and kept walking.

He sighed. “Fine. Don’t tell me. Just tell the healer what’s going on with your body, it would ease our worries.”

We reached the pack’s clinic, and fortunately, we met Olivia, the healer who had treated me frequently.

“Shane,” she said with a small smile. “And Iris. How can I help you today? What injury did you get from training with Lucas today?”

Shane nudged me when I hesitated to respond. “None. She has just been acting strange for weeks. She barely has energy anymore, and she has no appetite.

Olivia dropped the file in her hands aside and turned to me, her eyes were sharp. “Is that true?”

I hesitated. “Yes.”

She led us to an empty room, then she pointed to the bed. “Sit.”

I sat down on the edge of the bed, feeling restless while Shane leaned against the doorway.

Olivia took my wrist, and closed her eyes as she felt my pulse.

“Your heartbeat is strong,” she said. “But your energy is very low, and your wolf is inactive.”

I swallowed, nodding in agreement.

Olivia hummed. “Any injuries? Headaches? Dizziness?”

“I just feel tired a lot, maybe a little dizzy sometimes, and food doesn’t taste right.”

Shane spoke from the doorway. “And she looks like she hasn’t slept in days.”

I shot him a glare. “She was asking me, not you.”

Shane held up his hands in mock surrender. ‘Fine. My bad.”

Olivia tilted her head at me. “When was the last time you had sex?”

The words landed like a slap. Heat rushed up my neck.

“I-what?” I choked, my voice sounding like a squeak.

Shane barked a laugh. “She hasn’t gone near anyone since she got here. Trust me, I would know.”

“Answer the question,” Olivia said calmly as if she hadn’t asked such an embarrassing question.

My mouth opened and closed like a fish. Why-why would she ask that?

“I… I don’t know,” I finally stammered. “Maybe… a few weeks?”

Shane’s eyes went wide. “What? When did that happen? How did I not know? Have you been sneaking around? Who was it?”

I ignored him as my heart thudded painfully Olivia’s expression made my stomach tighten.

Why would a healer care about something like that? What was she looking for? What did she think was happening to me?

She stepped forward, then she placed her hand on my abdomen, closing her eyes

a moment.

Panic gripped me. What the hell was she doing?

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“A test,” she said simply.

My stomach tightened. “For what?”

for

Olivia didn’t answer right away. She kept her hand there, then she lifted it, her eyes narrowed slightly.

She turned back to me, her expression unreadable. “Iris…”

My heart hammered as dread crept up my spine. “What?”

Olivia folded her arms across her chest. “You’re pregnant.”

The room seemed to tilt for a moment.

Pregnant.
