Chapter 125
Iris’s POV
Shane shot me a look that said it was my news to share. I nodded in silent thanks.
I opened the door, leaving the door open as a silent invitation for them to both come
I turned to face Jasmine, exhaling shakily. “I’m leaving,” I said simply.
Jasmine blinked. “Leaving? What are you talking about?”
“I can’t stay in this pack anymore,” I said.
She frowned. “Why? Did something happen?”
I hesitated. “No. Nothing specific. I just-“My chest tightened. “I need a fresh start. Somewhere I can figure myself out.”
“Figure yourself out?” Jasmine crossed her arms. “You’re not making sense. You looked like you were enjoying yourself here. What exactly are you trying to run from?”
“It’s not about running,” I said quickly. “I just… I need space. Time away from everything here.”
Shane rolled his eyes. “That’s not an answer, Iris.”
I looked away, clenching my jaw. “It’s the only one I’ve got right now.”
Jasmine stepped closer, her voice was sharp. “Do you remember the last time you tried something like this? I helped you sneak out, remember? And what happened?”
I flinched as menacing red eyes flashed through my mind. “I remember.”
“You were attacked by rogues after you crossed the border,” she said, her tone rising. “You passed out. You almost died, Iris. Rowan had to bring you back. I still have nightmares about that night, even though I made jokes about it.”
I stared at the floor.
“I thought I was helping you then,” Jasmine went on. “But later on I realized I was being reckless. You could have been killed. And if something had happened, it
would’ve been my fault for helping you.”
Her voice trembled slightly at the end.

“Jas-“I started.
“No,” she cut me off firmly. “Don’t ask me to help you again. I won’t. Rowan would kill me if I even thought about it. And honestly, he would be right to. I’m not putting you or myself in that kind of danger again.”
Shane crossed his arms. “She’s right. You can’t just vanish again.”
“I’m not asking you to sneak me out,” I said, forcing my voice to stay calm. “I’m telling you what I’ve decided.”
“Then you need to tell the Alpha,” Shane said flatly. “Because nobody, not even Asher or Lucas, will let you walk out of here without his say-so.”
Jasmine nodded. “Exactly. Whether you like it or not, he’s the Alpha of this pack. If you want to leave, you need his permission. That’s how it works.”
I rubbed a hand over my face. The thought of facing Rowan made my stomach twist.
Shane’s tone softened. “You can’t avoid him, Iris. If you really want to leave, you have to talk to him.”
Silence fell between us.
Finally, I let out a long breath. “Fine,” I muttered. “I’ll tell him.”
Jasmine tilted her head. “You mean it?”
“Yes.” I straightened my shoulders. “I’ll tell him.”
“Good,” Shane said, though his voice still sounded worried.
Jasmine stepped closer. “I’ll walk you to his office if you want. He’s probably still there.”
I hesitated. “You don’t have to-”
“Don’t worry I want to,” she interrupted. “Besides, I’m going that way too.”
Shane shrugged. “Let’s go. It’s better now than later.”
I swallowed hard as we followed Jasmine out.
The hallways were quiet as it was still quite early. We passed by a few pack members, greeting them with smiles and nods.
Jasmine glanced around to be sure we were alone before leaning closer. “You know Chloe’s been all over Rowan lately, right?”

I stiffened, and Shane glanced at me. “I noticed.”
“It’s like she’s glued herself to him,” Jasmine said with a huff. “Everywhere I go, there she is, laughing at nothing, batting her lashes like some lovesick teenager. It’s irritating.”
I pressed my lips together, saying nothing.
Jasmine rolled her eyes. “It’s obvious what she’s trying to do. She wants everyone to think they’re like a perfect Alpha-Luna pair. And Rowan… well, he doesn’t exactly push her away in public.”
A bitter feeling rose up in my chest, but I shoved it down.
Jasmine glanced at me. “For some reason, Rowan has been accommodating her nonsense more recently.”
She went on. “And the elders eat it up. They already talk about her like she’s Luna. It makes me want to throw something. Even the pack members hate it because she’s getting more outrageous.”
I bit the inside of my cheek, trying not to let my thoughts show.
Shane probably knew what was on my mind, but fortunately, he said nothing.
Jasmine released an annoyed huff. “Anyway that’s what you’re walking into. Rowan’s probably in his office finishing up reports or something, and Chloe will be buzzing around trying to look important.”
I tried to keep my voice steady. “Thanks for the warning.”
“Just… don’t let her get to you,” Jasmine said. “You’re better than that.”
I didn’t answer as my stomach tightened.
As we reached the double doors to the Alpha’s office, dread slithered down my spi
