Chapter 126
Iris’s POV
The door cracked open and Chloe stood before us with her perfect blonde hair that made me feel self-conscious for a brief moment.
The second her gaze landed on me, her mouth twisted into a sharp sneer.
“Well, look who thinks she can waltz in here.” Her voice was sharp like a dagger, but I noticed that she kept it low. “What the hell are you doing at the Alpha’s office? Didn’t anyone teach you that the Alpha’s office is not a place for classless people like you?”
My head already throbbed from everything that had happened today. I wasn’t about to waste energy on Chloe.
“I need to see Rowan,” I said flatly. “Whatever I’m here for doesn’t concern you, Chloe.”
Chloe’s eyes narrowed and she gave me an icy glare. “Excuse me?” She stepped out a little, blocking the doorway with her hand. “The nerve you have. You think you can just walk up here and demand to see him?”
She continued. “And it’s Alpha Rowan to you. Show some respect. If it concerns him, it concerns me. We are partners. Everyone knows that. Or are you too dense to understand?”
I crossed my arms and kept my face blank. “This is between him and me, Chloe. I just need a few minutes and I’ll be out of your way.”
Chloe released a harsh laugh that caused me to wince. “Between him and you? Oh, that’s rich. What could you possibly have to say to the Alpha that I can’t handle? Please don’t tell me you’re growing a little crush on my Rowan, because it’s a waste of time. He’s mine, and always will be.”
Heat burned in my chest, but I swallowed it back. Giving her the reaction she wanted would be a waste.
“I’m not doing this with you,” I said, my voice tight.
Chloe leaned forward, lowering her voice to a hiss. “You really don’t get it, do you? Well let me spell it out for you. You are trespassing, so go crawl back to whatever hole you came from.”
Before I could respond, Rowan’s voice called out from inside the office. “Who is that,

Chloe?”
A shiver ran down my spine at the sound of that voice. I hadn’t heard it for a month, I hadn’t realized I missed it this much.
Chloe’s posture changed immediately. Her sneer disappeared, and she quickly put on a sugary smile and turned her head.
“Nobody important, darling,” she called sweetly. “I’ve handled it.”
She moved to swing the door shut in my face.
“You owe me big time,” Shane muttered beside me. It was low enough for only me to hear.
Before I could ask what he meant, he stepped forward and shoved the door with his shoulder.
The sudden force caught Chloe off guard. She stumbled back, her high heels wobbled, and for a second I thought she would fall, but unfortunately, she caught herself, holding on to the doorframe for balance.
“How dare you!” she screeched, causing me to wince slightly. “Rowan, darling! Did you see what this lowlife just did?” She jabbed her finger toward Shane as her face turned red. “He barged in here like some uncivilized brute-”
Rowan lifted his head from his desk where he had been going over a set of papers. He straightened slowly, his brown eyes narrowed as they fixed on Chloe.
