Chapter 140
Eric’s POV
My hands still shook where Iris had torn hers out of mine.
I could still feel the warmth of her skin on my palms, but she was already gone. She had stormed out of the hall without even glancing back once.
I stared at the empty space she left behind. My chest felt like someone had slammed a fist into it.
“Iris…” The name scraped out of my throat hoarsely.
I spun toward the stage and met the sharp brown eyes of Alpha Rowan Bane. His face was hard as stone. My shock turned into anger before I could stop it.
Heat surged through me.
“How dare you?” The words came out low and rough.
Murmurs of surprise echoed throughout the hall. Conversations that had just started died again as hundreds of eyes swung toward me.
Rowan stepped forward slowly. “Watch your tone,” he said evenly.
The tone of his voice made the warriors at the edges of the room straighten. I swallowed the urge to snap again.
He was an alpha, and so was I. But everyone knew Rowan Bane’s reputation. He was ruthless, and calculating, the kind of Alpha who would tear a man apart with blinking.
I forced my voice down. “Why?” I asked. “How is she here? Were you hiding h me? Why didn’t anyone tell me she was alive?”
The crowd murmured louder. Rowan’s eyes darkened.
“Who is she to you?” he asked, his voice was sharp as a blade. “How do you know her?”
For a moment, I hesitated. Because it still seemed like a dream.
Then I tightened my jaw. It was real.
“She’s from my pack,” I said, my voice rang out across the silent hall. “She’s my wife.”

Gasps burst through the room. The hall erupted into chaos. People twisted in their seats, whispering, and pointing toward the door Iris had disappeared through.
Rowan’s expression tightened. “Your wife?”
“Yes,” I said firmly. “She’s been missing for months. We-” My throat caught, and I paused.
I cleared it and forced the words out. “We thought she was dead. We found a bloodied scene on the border. There were rogue bodies everywhere. We found her bracelet in the dirt.” My voice cracked despite myself. “We thought the rogues killed her. We searched for weeks.”
The hall buzzed with more whispers as the pack members exchanged uneasy glances.
Rowan’s face was unreadable. He studied me for a long beat, then spoke coldly. “You claim she is your wife.”
“I don’t claim,” I snapped, my Alpha instinct flared at being talked to like that. “It’s a fact.”
Rowan’s eyes narrowed. For a second, the air felt charged, as if the pack members were waiting for a fight.
“I need to see her,” I said quickly, before my temper ruined everything. “Someone lead me to-‘
“No.” Rowan’s voice cut in sharply like a blade.
The crowd fell silent again.
“No?” I repeated as disbelief tightened my chest. “You expect me to sit here while
“We have an alliance to finalize,” Rowan interrupted, his tone was calm but it was hard like steel. “Anything else can wait. I am a very busy man, Alpha Eric. And you need this alliance far more than I do.”
His words landed like a warning. A few of his warriors shifted slightly, tensing as they waited for anything.
I ground my teeth. He was right about one thing, my pack did need this alliance. Rogues had been attacking the Crescent Moon Pack more frequently, and we were struggling to defend the pack.
I couldn’t afford to insult Rowan, especially not here, in the presence of his pack.
