Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 141

Chapter 141

Voices droned on about patrol schedules and tribute amounts, but none of it stuck in my head.

I couldn’t stop seeing her. Those blue eyes fixed on me when I said her name.

Those eyes

that once softened every time she looked at me. Eyes that lit up when she spoke about our daughter.

Today, they were different. They were cold and there had been no recognition of the man she loved. Only something that looked like hate.

The realization sat heavy in my stomach.

“Eric.” Jeremy nudged me gently. “You need to sign the last page.”

I blinked and glanced down at the parchment. I signed without reading. My hand barely felt the pen.

Iris was alive, she was here, and she looked at me as if I were a stranger-or an

enemy.

The final seal was pressed on the document. Rowan gave a brief, formal nod to me. The Blood Moon Pack welcomes this alliance,” he announced. His pack clapped politely.

I barely heard them.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, snapping me back to reality. I pulled it out and saw the name flashing across the screen.

Zara.

I tightened my jaw, then I hit mute without hesitation. The last thing I wanted was to hear her voice right now.

Almost immediately a message popped up.

-You barely return my calls anymore, Eric. Where are you? I haven’t seen you for days. I went to your office and you’re not there.

I stared at the words, annoyance burned within me. I slid the phone back into my pocket without replying.

((

Across the table, Rowan watched me with cold eyes. He knew I wanted to chase after Iris, and he was making me wait.

I forced my shoulders back and said nothing Picking a fight with him here would only make it harder to reach her.

Jeremy leaned toward me and murmured under his breath. “Do you want me to… you know… look for her?”

“Not yet,” I muttered. My voice was tight. “Just give it a minute.”

He gave a slow nod and stepped back.

The rest of the ceremony finally finished. The crowd began to disperse, murmuring among themselves about what had happened. Rowan turned to speak quietly with his Beta and his Gamma.

I exhaled sharply. The urge to run after her was so strong it hurt.

Iris. After all these months.

I thought back to the last night I saw her, and guilt burned through me. So many wrongs I had done, so many wrongs I had to make right.

I clenched my fists. I would not let it end like that.

Zara sent another message.

-Eric, don’t forget to get that diamond necklace you promised to get me for my birthday next week.

I sneered at my phone. Of course. This was the main reason she had been trying to reach me. To make sure I got her the diamond necklace.

Iris had never been like that. She never cared for the status, the money, the jewelers. She only ever wanted my time, my care. She had only wanted me to care for Evie.

At the thought of Evie, my chest tightened, and I swallowed.

I turned slightly toward Jeremy. “As soon as we’re dismissed,” I said quietly, “Find out where she went.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Alpha Rowan might not-”

“I don’t care,” I cut in. “Find her.”

Jeremy gave a short nod.

My phone buzzed again. It was another message from Zara.
