Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Iris’s POV

When I woke again, the room was dim, and there was a large shadow standing at the foot of the bed.

My breath hitched as I instinctively tried to sit up, but my body screamed in pain immediately. A sharp pain pierced through my ribs and shoulder, and I winced. Everything ached. Even my fingers hurt.

For a moment, I didn’t know where I was. Then I remembered.

Crossing the border. The rogues. The black wolf. The man.

The shadow stepped forward. Easy,he said, his voice calm and steady.

It was him. The man who saved me.

He moved closer, but slowly, like he didn’t want to startle me. He pulled a chair beside the bed and sat down. The sweet scent of pine and fresh rain brushed my nose.

You were unconscious for a while,he said. You had a fever yesterday. But it broke this morning.

I blinked, studying him properly now that my mind had cleared a little. He was dressed in a dark shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbow. He folded his arms casually, but there was nothing casual about the way he looked at me. His brown eyes were dark, sharp and focused.

His eyes weren’t cold. But they were unreadable.

Wherewhere am I?I asked, my voice hoarse.

You’re safe,he replied. We’re deep in my territory. You’re protected here.

I stared at him, processing his words slowly.

You’re an Alpha,I said, remembering the intelligent gold eyes of that large black wolf.

He nodded once. Yes.

My fingers gripped the blanket. Am I a prisoner here?

No.

Then let me go,I said, struggling to sit up, ignoring the piercing pain in my body. I have somewhere to be. I just need a few

minutes to-

He stood immediately and placed a hand on my shoulder. It wasn’t rough, or forceful, but it was firm enough that I couldn’t rise. You’re not going anywhere. Not until you’re healed.

I don’t want to stay here,I said through clenched teeth. This is not my pack.

Maybe not. But you won’t survive another attack in the condition you’re in. So whether you like it or not, you’re staying.

I stared at him, my heart racing. I didn’t know what he wanted and what his ulterior motives might be, and it scared me because

I had seen what he was capable of. I knew that there was no way I could overpower him and escape, whether I was injured or not especially without my wolf.

He didn’t speak again for a moment. Then, he extended a hand towards me. I realized we never did introductions.

I didn’t take it.

His eyes shone with amusement. He didn’t look surprised.

I’m Rowan Bane,he said.

My blood ran cold.

My lips parted in shock and horror. You’reRowan Bane?

He nodded.

I swallowed hard, as a cold sweat ran down my spine.

That name wasn’t just familiar. It was feared.

Alpha Rowan Bane. The one people whispered about. Which meant that this was the Blood Moon Pack, one of the most ruthless and brutal packs. He was the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, the most feared territory in the North.

There were so many rumors. How he never lost a fight, how he ran a pack full of ruthless warriors. How he once destroyed fifty rogues with his bare hands in human form, without a scratch on him.
