Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Iris’s POV

“That was a very stupid thing to do.”

The deep, flat voice startled me.

I turned, blinking as I stared at the figure standing in the corner of the room.

Lucas.

I had even forgotten that he was standing there until he spoke. He was standing by the door, military pose as always.

His arms were crossed, his expression was blank, and his eyes were cold.

For a second, I was too stunned to reply. Then my lips parted, and the words tumbled out before I could stop myself.

“Oh, you’re talking to me now?” My voice was filled with disbelief and sarcasm. “What a shock. I was beginning to think you had taken some kind of vow of silence against me. Or maybe you just enjoy glaring coldly at me like some judgey statue.”

Lucas didn’t react. His expression didn’t change. It was still that annoying look of indifference.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “So that’s it? You drop one line of how stupid I am, and you go back to silence.” I huffed. “I’ve seen furniture with more personality than you, Lucas.”

There was still nothing. Not even a twitch.

I threw my hands up as irritation burned through me. “Unbelievable! You know that it won’t kill you to say a few words, right?”

Silence.

“God, do you even know how frustrating you are?” I snapped, my words spilled out in irritation. “You’re just like a wall of stone. I can feel you silently judging me without bothering to explain why.”

Nothing.

“Seriously?” My voice rose an octave, my face heating. “Do you actually enjoy this?”

Lucas’s eyes darted briefly toward me, then away, dismissing me like I was nothing more than an annoying buzzing fly.

That was the last straw.

“Oh, fine. Don’t say anything.” I crossed my arms and leaned back against the bed frame, glaring at him. “Just keep pretending I don’t exist. Just stand there silently, trying to be intimidating. Well, guess what, I’m not intimidated.”

Lucas’s jaw twitched for a split second. If I hadn’t been staring right at him, I wouldn’t have noticed. But he still didn’t respond.

I scoffed loudly, shaking my head incredulously. “Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable.”

Honestly, I didn’t know why I was getting annoyed and irritated with his silence today. Normally, I usually ignored him.

Maybe it was because he had indirectly called me stupid.

The door opened before I could rant anymore.

Rowan stepped inside, and his eyes immediately found me. My heart gave a little jolt as his eyes met mine, though I did my best not to show it.

“Alpha,” Lucas greeted, giving him a nod the moment Rowan entered.

Rowan glanced toward Lucas, nodding in response. Then he said calmly, “Lucas. You’re excused.”

Lucas nodded again, already moving toward the door.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes as I scowled at his back.

Rowan turned to Lucas just as he got to the door. “Hold on, did you tell her?”

Lucas paused in the doorway, glancing at Rowan then at me, then he shook his head.

I furrowed my eyebrows, suspicion rising. “Tell me what?”

That was when Rowan dropped the bomb. “Lucas will be teaching you how to fight.”

I froze. My brain stuttered, and all the air left my lungs as shock flooded through me. “What?”

Rowan folded his arms across his chest. “You heard me.”

My mouth fell open. “No. No, absolutely not. There is no way-”

“Yes.” Rowan cut me off. “You’re training with Lucas. Starting tomorrow.”

My eyes darted to Lucas, who was still standing in the doorway, silent as ever. “With him?” I asked, incredulous.

Rowan nodded. “Yes. With him.”

I let out a hysterical laugh. “You can’t be serious. Lucas doesn’t even talk to me. He hates me.

As Lucas left, he glanced back. His eyes were sharp and cold as usual, but his mouth twitched for a split second like a mini smirk.

It made a shiver crawl down my spine.

My mouth went dry.
