Chapter 65
Iris’s POV

Later that evening, I was still moody in my room. My brain wouldn’t stop circling around the same scary image of Lucas’s cold, sharp eyes drilling into me while I stumbled around the training grounds like an idiot.
I was trying to distract myself with Evie’s colouring book.
“Iris!”
The door burst open without the person knocking.
“Ta-da!” Jasmine announced as she stepped inside like she was making a grand entrance.
I nearly jumped. “Can’t you knock?!”
She strolled inside, completely ignoring my glare. “Relax. It’s just me.”
“Just you?” I scoffed. “Jasmine, knocking is for everyone.”
She shrugged nonchalantly as she plopped herself on my bed with a wide grin on her face.
She wasn’t limping. She wasn’t bruised. She looked perfectly fine.
I couldn’t help but stare at her in surprise. There was no single trace of remorse on her face. “Wait a second. You’re alive?”
Jasmine blinked innocently. “Well, yeah. Obviously.”
I tilted my head. “So… Rowan didn’t maim you? Or kill you? Or lock you in a dungeon?”
She grinned. “Well, he almost scolded me to death. But after a few minutes, he gave up. I’ve been getting nagged at by Rowan since I was a child. At this point, I’m basically immune.’
I gave her an incredulous stare. “That’s it? That’s all you got?”
“Pretty much.” She shrugged like it was nothing.
Unbelievable. I thought to myself.
Rowan had been nagging my ears off every second of the day since that night of the second rogue incident, and yet Jasmine, who had assisted me big time, faced zero consequences.
“So unfair.” I grumbled under my breath.
Jasmine lifted an eyebrow still smiling. “What’s unfair?”
I shook my head with a sigh. “No, never mind.”
Just as she opened her mouth to talk, there was a knock on the door.
I gave Jasmine a pointed look. “Finally. Someone with manners.” I mumbled.
She scoffed, rolling her eyes in mock outrage.

“Come in,” I called.
The door opened, and Asher stepped in. He gave Jasmine a smile, before his eyes landed on me. “Evening.”
His expression was calm but his green eyes as usual, shone with mischief.
Jasmine immediately straightened up, with a teasing grin on her face. “Ooooh. Beta Asher, what brings you to our room?”
Asher gave Jasmine a smirk as he replied. “Rowan asked me to check on you,” he said, addressing me.
I furrowed my eyebrows. “Check on me? Why? Does he think I’m going to run away again or something?”
Asher gave me a small smile. “Not really, but he gave instructions that Jasmine and you shouldn’t be left alone for long. Because of last time.”
Jasmine poured mockingly. “Oh look at that, my own brother doesn’t trust me.”
“Would you blame him?” I muttered.
She turned to me with a small frown on her face. “Are you okay? You sound more upset than usual.”
I sighed. “I am upset.”
Jasmine perked up immediately. “Oh! So you’ve heard?”
My eyes darted between them. “Heard what?”
Asher smirked, while Jasmine gasped so dramatically that she almost fell backward on the bed. “You don’t know?”
My stomach dropped as I braced myself for yet another bad news. “Don’t know what?”
Jasmine leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper like she was sharing a scary story. “Lucas is going to be your trainer.”
I groaned, flopping backward on the bed. “Why are you saying that like it’s some spooky curse?”
“Because it is,” Jasmine said seriously, her eyes wide.
I sat back up slowly, narrowing my eyes. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means that I’ll start praying for you tonight.” She said seriously.
My stomach dropped. “Is it that bad?”
