Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Iris’s POV

“I can’t believe this!” Jasmine burst out, dramatic as always, her eyes shone with delight. “I leave you five minutes. Five! And you’ve gone and punched Chloe. First Lucas, now Chloe. Tell me the truth, Iris. Are you secretly on some kind of punching spree today?”

I groaned, my throbbing hand causing me to wince. “Please don’t start.”

But of course, Jasmine smirked, leaning closer like she was conspiring with me. “So, who’s next? Me? Rowan? Ooh-Shane! Because, honestly, he kind of deserves it for hesitating back there. I wouldn’t even blame you.

Shane gave Jasmine a look of betrayal.

“Jasmine!” My cheeks heated instantly. “Stop it. You’re being ridiculous.”

“Ridiculous?” she shrieked with mock offense, then she tapped her chin thoughtfully, “Alright, so Lucas, Chloe, Shane… Rowan. That’s four. Is Asher is on your list too? Because honestly, Asher does have one of those faces you want to smack sometimes.”

“Come on,” I muttered. “I’m not going to punch anybody.”

“Oh really?” Jasmine’s eyes sparkled mischievously. “Then tell me, what exactly was going through your head right before you did it? Did you get this sudden moment in your brain, like, Screw it, I’m doing this now! Screw the consequences! Or have you been planning this for days?”

I spluttered. “It wasn’t- I didn’t plan it, Jasmine!”

She gasped dramatically. “So it was instinct. Raw, primal instinct. Wow. How wild of you.”

“I’m not wild” I mumbled, but she only grinned wider.

“Right, right,” she drawled, clearly enjoying herself. “So tell me then, did it feel good? Was it satisfying? Be honest. Because if you’re going to start decking people, I want to know if you’re doing it for the rush.”

Jasmine quickly clamped her mouth shut dramatically. “Of course, I’m stopping now. I wouldn’t want to be the next on your punching spree.”

Shane snorted.

I groaned loudly.

Jasmine laughed loudly again, causing passersby to glance at her curiously. Internally, I appreciated her teasing, because her teasing kept me from replaying what happened with Chloe. I couldn’t forget Chloe’s tight grip on my injured hand, the agony, the way her face had shone with delight at my pain, and her look of promised revenge when she turned to leave.

Jasmine, on the other hand, looked perfectly unbothered, she was strolling beside me with several shopping bags in her hands, I held two shopping bags in my uninjured hand, while Shane carried the rest.

Suddenly I noticed something. People were looking at me. Their gazes stayed on me for too long. Whispers and murmurs rose up as we passed. It was worse than earlier when we were going to the mall.
