“I will. Soon.” Chloe snarled. “Everyone here knows it. And when I do, people like her will be put in their place. But right now, I need to teach her a lesson.”

“Try it,” Jasmine snapped, stepping closer with a sharp glare. “I dare you. Right here. Right now. See what happens.”

Chloe faltered. She glanced toward the crowd, who were watching intently, and whispering amongst themselves.

Jasmine smiled at Chloe, but it didn’t look friendly at all.

“Should I remind you the difference between you and me? My power isn’t from a promise of the future. I was born with Alpha blood. My authority is here, and it’s now. And if you touch Rowan’s guest again, I’ll end you myself.”

There was silence now. Nobody spoke. The air was so tense that it felt like the whole crowd was holding its breath.

Chloe’s chest rose and fell fast, her clenched fists shook. Her nose was red and swelling, and fury blazed in her eyes. She looked like she wanted to launch herself at me right then and there.

Her girls stepped back subtly, glancing at Jasmine warily.

“Go ahead,” Jasmine taunted with a grin. “Make the first move. See if anyone here takes sides with you when you’re standing against me.”

The silence continued for another moment. Chloe looked like she had swallowed something sour. She glared at me murderously, then at Jasmine.

“This isn’t over,” she hissed.

She turned sharply, shoving past her two friends. They gave me dirty looks, while avoiding Jasmine’s gaze, then they followed Chloe quickly.

The crowd parted to let them through.

The crowd started whispering again. I could hear Chloe’s name being mentioned, and the words “punch,” ” Luna,” all through the crowd.

I exhaled slowly, my whole body was trembling now that the adrenaline was fading.

Jasmine turned to me instantly. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” I muttered, though my hand was throbbing like fire.

Her eyes narrowed as she looked me over.
