Chapter 83
Rowan’s eyes flickered down to my hands, then back to me. A flash of concern flickered in his eyes, but he quickly hid it.
He clenched his jaw. “How is it my fault, Iris?” He asked.
I sighed. “She threatened him with her so-called future Luna status.” I rolled my eyes as sarcasm dripped from my voice. “And she used that to control him. To keep him intervening.”
Rowan paused, frowning. He didn’t seem to understand at first.
I clenched my jaw. “She said that she’s betrothed to you. And that she would report him for disrespecting her. Shane couldn’t go against her because she made him believe he would suffer the consequences if he dared to lay a finger on her.”
“That was how she controlled him, made him freeze.”
There was silence in the room as Rowan’s expression shifted from anger, to disbelief, then an unreadable emotion.
Jasmine shifted uncomfortably, staring between us. Shane kept his head bowed, his shoulders
were tense.
Finally, Rowan’s sharp voice cut the silence. “That is not reason enough for my order to be defied.”
I gaped at him. “But it is, Rowan! Don’t you get it? Her words aren’t empty. As far as everyone is concerned, you’re getting married to her one day! She is the future Luna.”
Saying those words out loud sent a sharp pain through my chest, and I clenched my jaw.
There was silence for a moment, then Jasmine spoke up quietly, with a sigh.
“It’s the truth,” she said, looking at her brother. There are very few people who can stand up
to her because of that. That’s why Shane came to call me to intervene.”
Rowan scowled. Finally, he sighed. “Fine. I’ll talk to Chloe. But Shane will still face punishment.”
I snapped my head toward him. “Punishment? He didn’t-”
Rowan cut me off. “More drills. Extra hours, double the load. Let it serve as a lesson to others that my order is final and absolute. Nobody else should make them defy my order.”
My mouth dropped open. “That’s not-”
His eyebrow lifted, “Unless you want me to beat him to a pulp instead.”
The room froze again.

I stared at him, gaping in disbelief. He just stood there waiting for my response.
I glared up at him, “I won’t let you do that to him.”
Rowan shrugged unfazed. “You won’t always be with him,” he continued, his tone calm, “I can beat him to a pulp later when you’re sleeping blissfully ignorant. That option is still on the table.”
I gasped. “You wouldn’t do that.”
He shrugged again, “Your choice.”
I glared at him.
Rowan smirked, like he had won some sort of game. Then his eyes shifted to look at Shane.
“You’re dismissed,” he said coldly.
Shane finally lifted his head. He glanced at me once with gratitude, then he lowered his eyes and stood up.
He gave a short bow and left the room in silence.
“Jasmine,” Rowan said, without looking at her, “get a healer for Iris’s hand.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Jasmine replied softly.
