Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 85

Chapter 85

Iris’s POV

Neither of us moved at first, we just stood there, our eyes locked, the air tense.

But then Rowan’s eyes dropped to my mouth, then came back up to my eyes.

My stomach tightened.

“You don’t know when to stop, do you?” he muttered, his voice was rougher now.

“Not when it’s the truth,” I replied, though my voice came out softer than it should.

For a heartbeat, we just stared. Then Rowan closed the distance, and in one fluid motion, his hand held the side of my neck as his mouth crashed against mine.

The kiss was fierce, almost angry, like he was trying to shut me up without speaking. I should’ve pushed him away, but instead my fingers grabbed his shirt, dragging him closer.

Heat surged through me, and it wasn’t just from the anger.

His other hand gripped my waist, pulling me against him. My lips parted, and the kiss deepened. I forgot all about my argument and what we had been fighting about.

But as we kissed, my injured hand brushed against him. Pain shot through me like lightning, and I hissed sharply, jerking back.

Rowan froze immediately, and his grip on my waist loosened. His eyes snapped down to my hand, then back up to my face. His eyes were glowing faintly, like his wolf was on the surface.

The air between us was thick with tension. I couldn’t believe what had just happened.

How did this happen?

My mind raced as realization dawned on me. I had promised myself after Eric, after Evie, after everything, that I would never let myself fall into something like this. And yet here I was, my lips tingling from Rowan’s kiss, and my body aching with desire.

Rowan must have seen something in my face, because his brow furrowed.

“Iris…”

“No.” I cut him off quickly, my voice shaking. I shook my head and stepped back, I pressed my good hand against my chest as I tried to steady my racing heart. “Please. Just leave.”

His frown deepened, confusion flashing across his face. “I don’t-”

“I said no,” I whispered sharply, my voice still shaking. “I’m not doing this with you, Rowan. You have a fiancée. Whatever happened is not… I can’t.” My chest tightened, but I forced myself to keep going. “I’m not ready for that kind of complication. In fact, I’m not ready for

anything at all.”

He stared at me silently, with an unreadable expression on his face. He tightened his jaw, and for a moment, I thought he would say something

But instead, he released a long sigh of frustration, and without another word, he turned and walked toward the door.

And just as he reached the door, it opened. The healer nearly bumped into him. She gasped and bowed immediately.
