Chapter 87
Iris’s POV
As we finished from the pack clinic, Jasmine informed me that our bags from our shopping trip had already been carried back to the room. I nodded absentmindedly, barely registering her words. My mind was still racing with everything that had just happened.
Jasmine walked quietly beside me as we made our way back. Normally, she filled the silence with chatter, but this time she didn’t. Maybe she noticed I wasn’t in the mood to talk. Or maybe she was just as exhausted as I was. Either way, I was grateful for it. The silence gave me space to breathe, though it also meant I was left alone with my thoughts. And that was the last thing I needed right now.
The image of Rowan’s intense eyes wouldn’t leave my head. No matter how many times I told myself to stop thinking about it, my brain dragged me back to the feeling of his mouth against mine.
By the time we reached the stairs, my stomach was churning.
Jasmine exhaled. “Well,” she muttered, “today was… very eventful.”
I gave her a weak smile, trying to appear normal. That’s an understatement.”
She studied me for a second, like she wanted to press, but instead she just sighed and waved me off. “Get some rest. Tomorrow will be less dramatic… hopefully.”
I nodded. “Thanks, Jasmine.”
“Try not to punch anyone while I’m gone.” she teased.
I laughed softly. “I’ll try my best.”
She gave me a little salute, then headed back, As I pushed open my door, I paused.
Shane was leaning against the wall inside. His jaw was already healed, thanks to his active wolf. The sight of him made my chest clench as it made me remember why Rowan and I were arguing.
“What are you doing here?” I asked before I could stop myself.
He straightened with a small smile. “Alpha cancelled my punishment. Instead, he reassigned me here.” He replied. “I’m your escort now. Your guard.”
I blinked. “Wait-you’re stationed with me?”
Shane nodded once. “Until Alpha says otherwise. At night, I will be staying in the guard quarters beside your quarters.”
For a second, I didn’t know how to feel. Part of me was relieved. If Chloe tried anything again, at least Shane would be there. But another part of me hated the thought of him being punished

this way, chained to me as some kind of consequence for his hesitation.
I chewed my lip. “Shane, I-”
“Don’t,” he said quickly, then he smiled, “I actually just… wanted to thank you.”
I frowned. “For what?”
“For standing up for me.” He said, “Nobody does that with the Alpha. But you did.”
I sighed.
“I came to realize that maybe I shouldn’t have,” admitted. “It was reckless.”
“Yes,” he agreed instantly, without hesitation. “It was. You shouldn’t do it again.” Then, after a pause, “But thank you for doing it for me.”
I smirked faintly. “Well, guess you’re stuck with me now. Sorry in advance.”
He smiled, nodding slightly. “I’ll manage.”
For some reason, my mind flashed to Lucas. His cold stares, cold comments. The thought made me almost miss him.
Almost.
But then I remembered training was tomorrow morning, and I immediately shook the thought away. Nope. definitely wasn’t going to miss him. Not even a little.
