Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 88

Chapter 88

“What happened here?” I asked out loud, completely confused. I rushed outside to see Shane still outside.

“What happened in here?” I asked him, pointing to the room.

He shrugged, shaking his head. “I walked in and the workers were just finishing up. They said the Alpha ordered them to change some things to make it suit your taste better.”

My throat tightened at his words.

This morning, I had been stubbornly telling Rowan he shouldn’t have given up his room for me, and now he had changed it up for me to suit me. He hadn’t asked or told me. He had just done it.

Why?

I swallowed hard. One part of me wanted to scream at him for overstepping, and deciding what

I needed without even talking to me. The other part melted at his thoughtfulness.

I shook my head, muttering, “Unbelievable.”

Shane tilted his head. “You don’t like it?”

I bit my lip. “It’s not that. It’s just….” I trailed off

It was confusing. Rowan wasn’t supposed to care about me, or about what made me comfortable. He had a fiancée already.

So why would he do this?

The memory of his mouth against mine flashed through my mind again. My chest tightened, and I pressed my hand against my chest to calm my erratic heart.

I needed to stop doing this to myself.

Shane broke the silence with a sigh. “For what it’s worth,” he said, running a hand through his hair, “I really do wish you the best in tomorrow’s session.”

I blinked at him. “Thanks… I guess. But why do you sound like you’re warning me about my funeral?”

A small smirk tugged at his mouth. “Because you punched Lucas.”

Heat rushed to my cheeks. “Yeah, well…I hope he has forgiven me. My broken fist should be more than enough punishment, right?”

Shane snorted. “I really doubt that. I am very sure that he’ll find a way to make you pay for it tomorrow.”

I groaned, dragging my good hand down my face “Great. As if training with him wasn’t already hell. Now he’s got a personal reason to kill me,

Shane’s smirk widened just slightly. “Exactly, and you didn’t just punch Lucas,”

1 froze. Slowly, I lowered my hand, “I’m sorry. What do you mean?”

“You also punched his cousin.” He added

1 blinked at him, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion. “Cousin? Who-” My voice shook as dread settled in my stomach.

Shane’s smirk disappeared. He frowned, his voice was cautious now, “You really don’t know, do you?”

My chest tightened. “Know what?”

He hesitated, then said slowly, “Chloe. She’s Lucas’s cousin.”

The words slammed into me like a physical blow

I stared at him, my mouth gaping in horror. For a second, my brain refused to process it. Chloe. Lucas’s cousin.

“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “That… that can’t be right.”

Shane nodded firmly, and with pity. “It is the truth.”

For a second, everything in me went still. Then my stomach twisted violently, my hands trembled. Chloe. Lucas’s cousin.

Not only had I punched Lucas this morning, I had humiliated his own cousin. In front of everyone, some hours later.

Lucas had already hated me enough to make training unbearable… now I had basically handed him a very good reason to want to destroy me.

I slowly lowered myself to the bed, my legs suddenly went weak. My heart pounded in my ears as the realization dawned on me.

Oh, my goodness.

“I’m dead,” I muttered, burying my face in my hands.
