Chapter 91
Iris’s POV
Shane furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “I’m pretty sure that’s what Lucas has been doing … since yesterday.”
“Yes,” I admitted, brushing past him as I walked toward the pack quarters, wincing at my throbbing muscles, “but I want to learn faster. I need to be able to practice and improve on my own. I can’t rely on him fully if I want to get better fast.”
He froze mid-step with a frown on his face.
“I… I mean, I can fight,” he said slowly with hesitation in his voice. “I know how to-” He stopped, biting the inside of his cheek. “Are you… are you sure you want me to do this? Training you… it’s not exactly a simple thing. It can be dangerous because Lucas is already pushing you hard. I—I don’t want to push you too far… or get you hurt.”
I glanced at him, “I have to do this,” I said softly “The only way I can get better fast is by practicing and trying to improve outside of Lucas’s teaching time.”
He ran a hand through his hair, clenching his jaw “I know, I get it… I just… I’m not sure if I’m the right person for this. Lucas has his methods. I don’t want to step on his toes, or make things worse for you.
I sighed, nodding in understanding. “I don’t care about making things worse for myself. But I also don’t want to worsen things for you, so just leave it.’

Shane hesitated a moment, then he finally exhaled. “Alright,” he murmured, “But don’t expect me to go easy on you. I swear… you’ll hate me like you hate Lucas before I’m done.”
I smirked faintly, relieved that he had finally agreed. “I wouldn’t want you to go easy on me. And I can’t hate you.”
He smirked. “So you do hate Lucas?”
I rolled my eyes. “No comment.”
We moved through the hallways. I could feel the curious stares of pack members as we passed,
I could hear their whispers, but I tuned them out completely ignoring them.
A woman with kind eyes stopped me as we passed “How’s your hand doing?” she asked, leaning slightly closer, her voice was gentle.
I blinked, caught off guard by her question. “It’s fine. Thank you,” I replied, glancing down at the bandages wrapped tightly around my hand.
Her eyes glanced around the hallway as though she were making sure no one was around. She leaned a little closer, lowering her voice. “You have quite the punch, you know.”
I paused, blinking at her in surprise. “Uh… thanks?” I muttered, unsure how to respond.

Shane hid a smirk.
She smiled warmly at me, tapping my shoulder as she walked off.
“Wow,” I said quietly to Shane, once the woman had moved on, “some people really don’t like Chloe.”
He shrugged casually, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Can you blame them?”
I nodded. “I guess not.”
I glanced at Shane as we reached the door. “We should talk a plan.”
He tilted his head, “I’m listening.”
out how this will work. We need
I continued. “Lucas trains me early in the morning. So I need a gap between sessions, so that I can have time to rest and recover. If we overlap, I’ll burn out or get sloppy. I need focus for the two sessions.”
Shane nodded, as he considered this. “So you’re saying I should train you later in the day?”
I nodded. “Evening. That way, I’ll have a few hours to recover from Lucas’s training. And I’ll also have a few hours to recover from yours by morning.”
He whistled slowly. “Evening sessions, huh? You really want to do this. You sure you’re not biting off more than you can chew?”
“I don’t have a choice,” I said quietly, but firmly
A bitter memory flashed through my mind. I was back in the training hall at the Crescent Moon Pack, months ago, facing Zara. I had no knowledge of how to fight. Yet Eric had insisted, claiming it would help me bond with her.
Zara had smiled with a predatory glint in her eyes. Then she moved fast, throwing punch after punch, and kick after kick. I barely managed to block a few punches and kicks. My muscles ached, and I was breathing heavily, burning with humiliation.
Evie had been there, standing wide-eyed in shock and pain as she watched me. While Tiffany, Zara’s daughter, smirked.
And Eric had clapped. “Good job,” he had said with his voice full of pride, addressing Zara, completely ignoring me.
My heart had sank because I had gone along, hoping to please Eric, believing that somehow it would matter to him, maybe it would make him look at me differently.
The memory made me clench my fist. That humiliation, and that feeling of helplessness was something that I had promised myself I would never feel again. So if Chloe came for me, I would be ready.

Shane must have noticed something on my face because he paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. “What’s on your mind?” he asked curiously.
I shook my head, forcing the memory down, and exhaled. “Nothing,” I said, “Just motivation.”
Shane looked like he wanted to press, but he decided to drop it. “Alright… so evenings. Got it. And how often are we talking? Daily?”
I shook my head. “Not every day. I need at least a day off between sessions. Recovery is part of training. Lucas pushes me hard enough as it is.”
He ran a hand down his face, releasing an exhale. ‘Okay, so… a day off and a day on?”
