I slowly sat up. My bandaged fist tingled, but I ignored it. I turned to face Lucas. He stood there with his arms crossed over his chest. There was no trace of emotion on his face.

I opened my mouth, not sure what I should say. Should I apologize? Beg for forgiveness? But before I could even form a word, he spoke.

“And you didn’t break your fist this time,” Lucas said, his voice was flat but there was a subtle hint of approval in his tone. “It shows me you listened to my corrections. Which means that teaching you isn’t a complete waste of time. Good.”

I froze. Good? I blinked at him as my brain struggled to process what I had just heard. He actually said good.

“Good?” I whispered incredulously. “Really? You mean… good?”

The word echoed in my head. I couldn’t believe this. After all the tension, all the fear, the guilt, all hours I spent dreading what he would say about Chloe? Good? I released a sharp, bitter incredulous laugh.

“I-“I began, then I paused, shaking my head in disbelief. “But I punched you yesterday!”

Lucas wasn’t fazed. He didn’t raise an eyebrow or move. “Yes, you did punch me yesterday. But it was a joke of a punch. Besides, you injured yourself far more than you injured me.” He glanced at my bandaged fist, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly.

I exhaled sharply, as frustration and disbelief boiled in my chest. “But I broke your cousin’s nose! That’s all you can say to me? Good? I’ve been tense all night and all morning, scared out of my mind waiting for your reaction!” My voice rose, shaking with fear, anger, and exhaustion.

Lucas smirked. It was a rare sight to see. If I hadn’t been so angry, I would have paused.

“It was satisfying to watch you tense, waiting for my reaction, wondering what I would say. Almost like you were waiting for some sort of punishment. I enjoyed it.”

I growled as heat rose to my cheeks. “You sadist..’ I muttered, my voice shook with anger, frustration, and something else that made my chest tighten.

Lucas turned away, but paused halfway, glancing back over his shoulder at me. “All I can advise is for you to learn harder, and faster. Chloe is from a Gamma bloodline. She’s strong. You caught her unawares this time, because you clearly underestimated her. That won’t happen again.”

His eyes were sharp and cold. “She will come for you, and when she does… she will show you hell.”

The words hit me like I had been punched. My heart skipped a beat, and I stiffened instinctively. I knew he was right. Chloe will come for me. And she will try to make me pay. That thought made my heart sink.

I lost track of how long I sat there with Lucas’s words echoing in my mind.

Some minutes after Lucas left, Shane came to stand beside me. “So… how was it?” he asked carefully, his eyes scanning my face. “I mean… I want to alive, but

y good, because you’r the look on your face…”

I cut him off sharply, tilting my head up to look at him. “Can you fight?”

He blinked at me, frowning as if he wasn’t sure whether I was joking or serious. Slowly, he nodded. “Yes,” he said with suspicion in his voice. “I can fight. That’s the only reason the Alpha would make me a bodyguard. Why?”
