Chapter 96
Iris’s POV
I didn’t know how I got back to my room. One moment I was leaning against Rowan’s wolf, the next I was waking up in my own bed. I had no memory of the walk back, or if Rowan had carried me, but I didn’t have the energy to think too hard about it.
When I opened my eyes the next morning. I noticed immediately that I didn’t feel heavy. I felt so much lighter than I had ever felt in weeks, and there was a strange warmth in my chest that made me feel like smiling.
The ache from the training yesterday was almost gone. And my knuckles didn’t hurt as much.
I sat up slowly, rubbing my face. I slowly stretched, yawning.
I glanced at the time. It was 8am already. I smiled in relief when I remembered that there was no training today.
I felt so much at peace.
However, that peace lasted for just three seconds
The door burst open.
“Rise and shine, Iris!”
I groaned loudly and flopped back down on my bed, pulling the blanket over my head.
Of course. Jasmine.
Her voice was bright and way too enthusiastic for morning. “Come on, get up! We have a lot ahead of us today.”
“What is it now?” I mumbled into the pillow, refusing to move.
She ignored me completely, striding into the room with that energy that always made me feel like I was a slow old lady.
She wasn’t alone though.
Shane trailed in behind her, looking like he had done something wrong. His eyes avoided mine instantly, and that told me everything I needed to know.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “You told her.”
Shane rubbed the back of his neck, looking sheepish. He didn’t answer, which was answer enough.
Jasmine smirked, looking so delighted by my reaction. “A little birdy told me that you didn’t go for training today.”

I sat up slowly, glaring at Shane. He still refused to meet my eyes.
“I was supposed to use today to rest and recover, I said, trying to keep my voice firm, but I already knew it was useless. It would never work on Jasmine.
She was already moving toward my closet, going through my clothes like someone on a mission. “Recovery is important, but so is fresh air, sunshine, and food. So, we’ll have breakfast at my favorite restaurant, then a little tour.” She removed a top from the closet and tossed it to the bed without even asking if I liked it or if I wanted to wear it.
“A tour?” I repeated flatly, trying to let her know that I was not interested.
But she turned to grin at me, with her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Yes. A tour. You’ve been here for weeks and you barely know this pack. You hide in your room, or in the training ground, or in the clinic. That’s not living. So today, you’re coming with me. I’ll show you all the best spots.”
I scoffed. “Because it turned out so well last time.” I said with sarcasm in

my voice.
I hadn’t spoken to Chloe since that day, and whenever I sighted her from afar, I made sure I and Shane took a different route.
Jasmine wasn’t fazed by my words. “That was just a slight bump in the road. It has been handled. Shane is here.”
I flopped back on the bed with a groan. “Jasmine, I need rest.”
Though that wasn’t true. I actually felt better this morning than I had in weeks, but I wasn’t about to let her know that.
Jasmine rolled her eyes dramatically, placing her hands on her hips. “You’ll rest after. We’ll be done before the afternoon. You’ll have your rest in abundance, I promise.”
“That’s not-”
“And,” she cut me off, pointing a finger at me, “we are not walking everywhere. We have a car to drive us around. We’ll walk a little, so you won’t really get exhausted.”
I released a long and dramatic sigh, hoping she would take pity on me. She didn’t.
“Come on, chop chop.” She clapped her hands once. “Get dressed. We leave in twenty minutes.”
I gave her a flat look. “Do I even get a choice?”
“Nope,” she said cheerfully.
Shane slipped out of the room, leaving me to suffer Jasmine’s “help” alone.

I muttered something nasty under my breath as dragged myself out of bed.
“Love you too,” Jasmine called out after me.

Some time later, I was dressed.
Jasmine looked so pleased with herself. She was grinning triumphantly, like she had just won a battle. She hummed to herself as she fixed her hair in front of the mirror.
I was less eager.
Shane stood by the door, trying his best to stay invisible. Unfortunately for him, I hadn’t forgotten his betrayal.
