Chapter 95
Iris’s POV
Rowan didn’t move at first. He just stood in front of me with his arms crossed, and his jaw tight, like he was preparing himself for something big.
His eyes narrowed slightly, and for a moment I thought he was going to lecture me again. My stomach sank, as I braced myself for it.
But instead, he took a deep breath and began stretching.
I frowned, looking at him with suspicion “What are you doing?”
He didn’t answer. He just took a slow step back.
I furrowed my brows. “Rowan?”
“Whatever happens, I want you to remain calm.” He said calmly.
I frowned. “I’m sorry, what?”
Suddenly, it happened.
His body shifted.
I gasped, my whole body jerked back in shock. I almost slipped off the rock I was sitting on.
His bones cracked, his body twisted, his clothes tore as his body grew. He released a growl that sent a shiver down my spine. It happened faster than I could process, and in the space of a second, Rowan wasn’t standing in front of me anymore.
In his place was a massive and terrifying wolf. Rowan’s wolf.
My eyes went wide.
I had only seen glimpses of his wolf before. Because the two times he had saved me from rogues, when I was half-conscious, barely aware of what was happening. But this was the first time I was seeing Rowan’s wolf this close, especially as I was fully conscious.
The wolf was larger than I had imagined.
His fur was black like midnight. He lifted his head, and his golden eyes pierced through me.
My whole body froze.
Rowan’s wolf stepped forward slowly. His paws were massive. I had never been this close to an alpha wolf before, not even Eric, and now I understood why everyone feared them. His presence alone was overwhelming.
My heart raced in my chest. I could barely breathe. Every instinct screamed at me to run.

But I didn’t.
Because even though his eyes glowed that dangerous golden color, they reminded me so much of Rowan.
I forced myself to ignore the intimidating size of the wolf before me. Instead, I kept my eyes fixed on his eyes.
Rowan. It’s Rowan. I kept repeating over and over to myself.
He approached slowly, and carefully, like he knew how close I was to running.
I swallowed hard, my hands shook on my lap. I forced myself not to move, when his massive body towered over me.
And then, to my shock, Rowan’s wolf lowered himself down. He bent his front legs until he was crouched in front of me, lowering his head so we were almost at eye-level.
I blinked, stunned.
This was Rowan Bane, the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack. He was lowering himself in front of
My chest ached. Something inside me cracked at that sight.
Why was he doing this? For me?
My throat tightened, and I had to look away for a moment.
I felt his warm breath over my arm. When I looked back, his golden eyes were still on me, watching and waiting patiently. Something heavy in my chest loosened.
He was doing this for me.
My lip trembled as my heart squeezed painfully. Slowly, against my will, I lifted my bandaged hand. It was painful, but I lifted it anyway.
I hesitated right before touching him.
The wolf tilted his head slightly, bringing it forward to close the space between my hand and
his head.
I flinched as my hand made contact. His fur was softer than I expected. Even with the bandages around my hand, I could feel the warmth of his body.
My breath hitched.
I stroked him hesitantly, moving my fingers slowly. It was thick and warm, and I could feel his massive muscles.
Rowan’s wolf let out a low sound. It wasn’t a growl. It was softer, like a rumble.

I froze.
Was he purring?
A surprised laugh escaped me. My eyes glanced up at him, his golden eyes were filled with
amusement.
Before I knew it, I was stroking him again. I was no longer hesitant as before. My hands moved through his fur, from his neck, down to his shoulders.
And Rowan let me.
The weight in my chest slowly got lighter. The noise in my head got quiet, and all I could hear was the sound of Rowan’s wolf’s pleased purr.
For the first time in days, maybe weeks, I didn’t feel like I was suffocating.
