Chapter 21 A Good Impression

When Matthew tasted the moo beast meat, a trace of surprise flashed through his eyes.
The meat was very tender and didn’t have to be torn apart with force like before. The flavor was also excellent, better than any roasted meat he had ever eaten, since it didn’t have the slightest burn bitterness
taste.
“Jaden, eat up.” Seeing that Jaden wasn’t moving, Zachary lightly tapped the plate in front of him.
Jaden, who had been sitting properly to the side, had long been swallowing his saliva, but he had thought this was something Zachary made for Matthew, so he hadn’t dared to eat. Hearing that, he immediately reached for the stir–fried mushrooms and meat he had been eyeing for a long time.
After running around outside for days, Matthew had only been eating enough to fill his stomach, so already starving. Although he ate quickly, his movements were very refined.
Zachary found it amusing that both Matthew and Jaden even ate in the same way.
As food gradually filled his empty stomach, the fatigue in his body slowly eased as well.

Perhaps because of Zachary’s changes, even the atmosphere inside the cave was no longer as heavy and oppressive as before.
Seeing Zachary slowly eating the piece of meat in front of him, Matthew unexpectedly spoke up, “You don’t need to worry about food.”
“Huh?” Zachary looked up. “Oh, it’s not that. I just can’t finish that much. You should eat more.”
Matthew was indeed eating with great appetite. By the end, Zachary was honestly shocked by how much he could eat and wondered if all therians eat this much.
Only after seeing Matthew fully fed and satisfied did Zachary say, “We’re out of salt.”
“Okay.” Matthew nodded. “I’ll go get some from the chief in a bit.”
Then, Zachary asked curiously, “Where does this salt come from?”
“We traded it with the merfolk tribe,” replied Matthew.
In this world, salt was a very important thing. Every time, the tribe had to travel a long distance to the eastern part of the Beastworld to exchange salt with the merfolk there.
“Merfolk?” Zachary’s eyes lit up.
This world is way too fantastical. On second thought, what else is impossible when even animals could turn into people?
“Do they have human bodies with fish tails, or fish heads with human bodies?”
It wasn’t Zachary being weirdly curious on purpose–he really had seen comics with fish–headed merfolk before. They had completely shattered the beautiful mermaid image from fairy tales that he had cherished since childhood. To be safe, he felt that it was better to ask first.

Hearing his question, Matthew didn’t know what to say. Considering that something was wrong with Zachary’s head right now, Matthew still answered his question. “Human body and fish tail.

Zachary was instantly tempted. If there was ever a chance, he absolutely had to go see them. After all, those were beautiful mermaids sitting on coral reefs! Just thinking about it made him excited.
It wasn’t easy to go on a salt–exchange trip. The amount distributed to each tribe member was limited, but it was basically enough for normal living needs. However, Zachary used to give his share to Wesley, and Matthew had silently let him do so. Hence, even though they should have been the most well–off family.. Jaden still lived miserably.
After finishing his meal, Matthew went to the chief’s place. When he came back, he had a bag of salt in his hand. He set it beside the stove, then lay down in the place where Jaden had slept before, planning to rest for a while.
At this time, Zachary had just followed Jaden to deliver the hides to Avery.
When passing Quincy’s cave entrance, Zachary learned that Avery was an elderly sub–therian living alone in the tribe since his mate had died in an accident long ago. Later on, everyone would ask Avery to help with certain tasks and give him some food in return, which could at least help him a little.
The cave was very quiet. As soon as Zachary entered, he saw Matthew in the corner. His lean, was slightly curled toward the stone wall, leaving only a back figure full of sharp lines.
strong body
The beast hides from yesterday had been moved together with Jaden into the inner cave, so now only the grass mat remained there. However, Matthew didn’t seem to care. Or maybe he was just truly exhausted, as he had fallen asleep the moment he lay down.
Zachary felt a little bad about it. He turned around, went to his own sleeping place, picked up a hide quilt, then tiptoed over and covered Mo with it.
So far, Zachary’s impression of Matthew was actually not bad. He was completely different from the savage, primitive image Zachary had imagined. Instead, he was silent but carrying a kind of reliable steadiness.
There wasn’t much entertainment in this world. Feeling bored in the afternoon, Zachary looked at the hides on the shelf before returning to his own primitive–style outfit. At that moment, he had the idea to try making two pieces of clothing.
When he was a child, his family had been poor, and almost all of Zachary’s clothes had been made by his grandmother. She would cut the fabric in town and bring it back to sew on the old–fashioned sewing machine at home. Zachary had watched beside her many times.
After having Jaden help him find the bone needle and the thread made from beast sinew, Zachary spread the hide out on the big stone at the cave entrance, basking in the sun while figuring out how to make the clothes.
Holding a piece of burnt black charcoal, Zachary sketched and measured. Before long, he had roughly drawn out the design. He planned to make a long–sleeved furry coat.
Jaden, who had originally been practicing climbing trees nearby, was drawn by Zachary’s actions. From between the dense branches, he poked out his head and curiously watched Zachary in the distance.
Zachary cut the gray hide with a stone knife, then began sewing it bit by bit with the bone needle and sinew thread. Unlike modern steel needles, it was very slow going.

By evening, it had only just taken on a rough shape.
Soon, the sky darkened. As Zachary looked at the setting sun and estimated the time, he decided to start making dinner first.
