Chapter 266 Everyone Came to Help
Matthew stepped a le closer. “I’m off today. I can stay with you all day.”

Zachary wasn’t in the mood for any affection right now. He pointed toward the storage room, where the large sack of soybeans they’d traded for earlier was.
“Wash those. Then, soak them in the vat.” His lips still hurt, so he kept his words as short as possible.
He couldn’t be bothered to move and spent the entire time lying on his side in the hammock. Resting against the edge, one hand propping up his head, he watched Matthew haul water, carry basins, wash the soybeans, and go about the rest of the chores.
Every so often, Matthew would come over and give the hammock a gentle push before going back to work. He seemed perfectly happy keeping himself busy.
Zachary’s gaze suddenly landed on the pearl–and–gem strands swaying in the sunlight.
Something crossed his mind.
Pressing his lips together, cheeks flushing red, he forced himself up despite the ache in his waist. Then he slowly walked over and took every strand down.
The plump, perfectly round pearls slid across his palm.
Zachary shook his head and hurriedly put them away one by one.
He couldn’t help grumbling to himself.
He isn’t primitive at all. He’s got game. Even being born in the wrong era doesn’t slow him down.
“They’re all washed.” Matthew’s voice suddenly came from behind him.
Startled, Zachary whipped around. “Go do your work.”
“I’m done.” Matthew looked like he was waiting for praise. He leaned in close, lowering his head slightly as his soft, fluffy hair brushed against Zachary’s neck.

Sensing exactly what he was after, Zachary raised a finger and wagged it side to side. “No kissing.”
“Not kissing.” Matthew wrapped his long, powerful arms around his mate from behind. Pressing his cheek against Zachary’s, he rubbed against him affectionately. “I just want a hug. I’m a little tired.”
Zachary didn’t buy that for a second, but he didn’t call him out on it either. He let Matthew hold him for a while.
Matthew’s hands, however, had no intention of behaving. The second Zachary stopped paying attention. they started slipping beneath his clothes.
Zachary sucked in a sharp breath and grabbed his arm. “Quit it. You bit me way too hard yesterday. It still
hurts.

Let me sce. Using concern as an excuse, Matthew practically tried to bury his entire face against him.
Zachary grabbed him by the neck with both hands like he was wrangling a giant goose. “If you don’t start behaving, get off me.”
Matthew’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he reluctantly straightened up a little.
After a long moment, Zachary asked, “Rested enough yet?”
Matthew shook his head.
Zachary arched a brow and immediately pinned a label on him. “What, you’re already trying to get out of doing work now?”
Then he let out a sigh. “Figures. Nothing ever stays the same. Guess I can only count on myself.”
Matthew immediately denied it. “No.”
“Then go wash the sweet potatoes and slice them up.” Zachary gently patted his head. “After that, lay them out on the rocks to dry.”
“Oh.”
The soybeans needed to soak overnight, so Zachary didn’t start making bean curd until the next day.
He had just finished eating when a whole group of therians showed up outside the cave. Bruce was with
them, too.
Daniel, Ethan, and several others stood in a row, smiling and waving at Zachary in greeting.
Zachary looked surprised. “You guys aren’t busy today?”
The others answered in unison, “Not at all!”
“Chief Alfred and Mr. Bruce said what you’ve got going on here is more important,” Donald said.
r Before long, Elias showed up too. But everyone’s attention immediately shifted to Kyle standing beside him.
Kyle’s hair, once black, had been dyed a deep forest green. A few bright green streaks ran through the front, right at his bangs. Under the sunlight, the color practically glowed. It gave off a rebellious, unconventional, edgy fashion vibe.
The problem was that it was really green. Painfully green.
Yael burst out laughing. He pinched a lock of Kyle’s hair and rubbed it between his fingers. “Not gonna lie, it’s got style. You look like some giant green reptile.”
Ethan leaned in and lowered his voice, sympathy flickering across his expression. “Did Elias make you dye
it?”

Ethan may have held a bit of a grudge against Kyle in the beginning. But he’d seen firsthand how devoted Kyle was to Elias and how much he looked after him. Little by little, those feelings had faded.
“What do you know?” Kyle brushed their hands away. He tossed his hair back and shot his mate a grin. “I
like it.”
“Zachary, doesn’t it look good?” Elias asked proudly, showing off his handiwork.
Naturally, Zachary took Elias‘ side.
He glanced at Kyle and replied, “It looks great. Really great.”
“See? That’s what I think too.” Elias looked even more pleased. “I’ll do yours tomorrow. Those dye plants we traded for from the other tribe during the trading gathering worked amazingly well.”
Zachary pictured himself walking around with a head full of green hair and immediately shook his head. “Elias, I don’t think that color suits me.”
“That’s fine.” Elias remained enthusiastic. “I’ve got red, blue, yellow, purple… I’ll bring them over tomorrow.”
Yael scooted closer to Quincy and asked quietly, “What do you think? Would red look good on me?”
“You’re already handsome as you are.” Quincy had no desire to wake up and see Yael’s bright red head first thing in the morning.
Yael chuckled and nodded in agreement. “Fair point.”
Matthew scooped out the soaked soybeans, and Zachary immediately started assigning tasks. Since there were so many therians around today, they decided to make both potato starch and sweet potato starch at the same time.
Before long, some therians were grinding soybeans, some were peeling them, and others were tending the fire. The area outside the cave became a hive of activity.
The light yellow soy milk was still full of pulp, so it had to be strained through fibers from pounded plants before being transferred into a large pot to cook.
