Transmigrated to Raise Panther Cubs
Chapter 316 Rain Days

The lean–to’s wooden roof was weighed down with stones, which kept it surprisingly sturdy. Even with the storm raging, it stood firm against the wind. The only problem was all the water pooling inside. Once the weather cleared up, they’d have to dig a few more drainage trenches.
Wearing his raincoat, Zachary headed out to feed the cows first. After that, he checked on the chickens, ducks, and rabbits. Maybe it was the weather, but they were all huddled together and getting along just fine.
The ground outside the cave sat higher and had been covered with stones so that the rain couldn’t flood inside. Water rushed past on both sides toward the lower areas, flowing like little streams before disappearing into the forest.
Zachary shut the door, shook the water off his raincoat, and hung it on the rack nearby.
With nothing else to do, he grabbed a charred stick and used the dirt floor to teach Cub how to recognize words. While he was at it, he went over some basic addition and subtraction, too.
The rain only grew heavier. Lightning tore through the thick clouds and struck deep within the mountains. Thunder crashed one blast after another, rattling nerves. The low–lying areas were already filled with standing water.
Zachary had seen heavy rain before, but never anything this violent. It looked like the storm wanted to drown the entire world.
Matthew had been exhausted after staying up all night. With a full stomach, he fell into a deep sleep.
After a simple lunch, Zachary went into the cave. He climbed onto the bed and curled up in his mate’s arms, resting his head against Matthew’s chest while wrapping an arm around his waist. Listening to that steady, soothing heartbeat, he gradually drifted off to sleep.
Even the constant drumming of the rain didn’t seem nearly as loud anymore.
Jaden wasn’t tired. Resting his chin in his hand, he sat by the cave entrance with the door cracked open, staring outside in a daze.
Matthew had finally gotten enough sleep. When he woke up, he felt something heavy sprawled across him. Looking down, he found Zachary practically lying on top of him.
Zachary’s fair face rested against his chest. His expression was peaceful, his breathing slow and even. One of his hands still lay over Matthew’s palm.
Matthew lifted a hand and gently rubbed his back before lowering his head to kiss the top of his hair. Fis golden eyes stayed fixed on his mate, and he made no move to get out of bed.
Night had already fallen. Or the clouds had simply grown thicker. Even with a candle lit, the cave remained dim and shadowy.
Another deafening crack of thunder exploded overhead. The rumble rolled through the mountains as if the cliffs themselves were splitting apart and rocks were crashing down.

Zachary frowned in his sleep. Matthew gently patted his back, then covered his ears with one hand.
After a while, Zachary finally opened his eyes. He blinked several times, his gaze still a little unfocused.
Matthew brushed his thumb along Zachary’s chin. “Awake?”
“Mhm.” Zachary answered lazily. He stayed draped over him for another moment before pushing himself upright.
Too much of an afternoon nap always left him feeling groggy.
Zachary sat blankly on the edge of the bed, his mind empty. Even when Matthew slipped his shoes on and nudged him to lift his foot, he didn’t react.
“What’s wrong?” Matthew scooped him up and rubbed his cheeks. Still half asleep? You tired?”
Zachary’s voice came out rough and sleepy. “I slept too much during the day. Now I’m not gonna be able to sleep tonight.”
Matthew was straightening his clothes. At that, he chuckled. “Perfect. We can keep ourselves busy.”
Zachary shook his head. “No thanks. My back hurts.”
After washing his face, he finally felt fully awake.
At some point, Chonk had wandered in. It was lying on the floor, lazily chewing on a juicy piece of fruit. Jaden was crouched beside it, gently petting its head. The whole scene looked ridiculously warm and peaceful.
There were no clocks here, so there was no way to tell the exact time. But everyone figured it was evening once they started getting hungry.
Zachary suggested having pie, and the whole family got busy making it.
The rain kept pouring for days.
The wooden shelters finally started giving out, swaying crookedly under the relentless wind and rain. Broken branches littered the ground everywhere. Even stepping outside meant wading through water
barefoot.
Every household stayed shut tight. Only when it was time to divide up game or butcher pigs and sheep did the therians brave the rain and gather in the tribe’s central cave. The cubs took the opportunity to join the excitement, too.
Taylor said he wanted to play with Jaden, so Yael stuffed him into Matthew’s cloak and walked away without a second glance.
Wrapped around a cub and carrying a chunk of meat, Matthew trudged through the blinding downpour toward his family’s cave.
The moment Jaden opened the door, Taylor poked his head inside and grinned before throwing himself

Taylor complained nonstop about how bored he’d been stuck at home. Then he wrapped his arms around Zachary and planted several loud kisses on him, saying he’d missed him so much.
Zachary laughed too. He hadn’t seen Taylor in two or three days, so he quickly brought out a pile of newly made snacks and let the two cubs munch while they played.
With Taylor around, the cave instantly felt livelier. He was sweet, well–behaved, and always eager to help. He ate well, stayed cheerful, and brought sunshine wherever he went.
A few more days passed, and the skies finally cleared.
The world was covered in damp shades of green, and the air carried a long–awaited cool freshness.
The therians gradually started returning to the market, and the tribe became busy once again.
The cubs were the most excited after being cooped up for so long. For two straight days, they ran wild across the hills. Whenever mealtime rolled around, they headed to the market stalls, ate, and immediately went back to playing.
“Jaden, Taylor, let’s go fly kites!”
“Yeah! Let’s do it!”
Little black panthers raced through the grass with their tails held high. Once they reached an open field, they shifted back into their human forms and started fiddling with their kites and strings.
