Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 520

And then I saw them.

Blaze and Cara, making out in a corner, tangled together with no care, in the dark, like the whole island belonged to them. My face went straight and I turned it away, instantly.

I would not look at them.

I picked up my tray and I kept serving, until, I got close to another room, its door open and golden light spilling out.

Men were playing pool around a table, the click of balls and the low talk of the game. But it wasn't the men that caught my attention. It was the TV above them.

Mounted to the wall, a big screen, tuned probably by default to the channel the men watched. Most of the men had their backs to it, intent on the balls, but a few were watching, drinks loose in their hands.

I could barely believe what I was seeing.

There, on that wall, larger than life, Dominic Ford. In a suit matching that of the woman's dress beside him. Celeste. He went down on his knees for her, in front of a crowd, in front of the world, and he swore. Undying love. Devotion. It was so easy from his mouth, the promise, the kneeling, like he was giving her the last thing he had.

"That woman is one hell of a lucky bitch!" one of the watching men laughed.

"Yeah. She has the billionaire completely wrapped around her little finger," said another, and they drank.

Why hadn't I treasured that? Why, why did I take him for granted?

Why did I climb into Julian's bed, spreading for him, breaking my vows, when Dominic had trusted me and given me a roof and his name? Why did I look at Dominic with disdain while I was married to him, because he was poor? Why did I treat the only sincerity I had ever been handed like it was cheap?

I regretted it. I regretted it so much that although I could barely breathe around the regret, I was doing it.

If I got a chance to do it over, I would love Dominic with my whole heart. I would never betray him. I would never, ever sleep with anyone else. I would never look at him with disdain. I would stay and be his, it wouldn't matter what the world showed me, I would be the wife he deserved. I would make our family perfect.
